@daringfireball I think you're being quite harsh and overlooking some genuinely good films. Luca, Soul, and Elemental really hold up to repeated viewing. (I have a 4-year old kid, so some movies get shown over and over 😊.)

The guy who distorted the impact of comic books on children, Fredric Wertham, leading to a national moral panic frenzy, was not a cardboard villain. A self-proclaimed "anti-racist," he partnered with Richard Wright to open an affordable mental health care clinic in Harlem. @gruber I loved them when I was younger, and having one signaled backing an upstart, “different” company. Apple may still be different than most companies, but they are not an upstart anymore.

@daringfireball Your collague Ben Thompson had a great discussion about the cultural rot at Boeing on a recent episode of Sharp Tech. The shift from an product engineering-focused company to a financial engineering company started with the reverse takeover by McDonnell Douglas’s executive leadership in the 1990s.

My father was an aerospace engineer and worked on several Boeing aircraft including 737 and 777. He was aghast at their decision making on 787 Dreamliner. I wish he were alive today.

Realizing, for not the first time that I can do a soliloquy on the history of modern version control systems 2005 - Present, off the top of my head.

And sadly, very sadly, this “skill” predates me joining GitHub by at least a decade. Like, this is just a thing I know. And I’m not sure how I feel about that. But I just know all of the LKML lore/drama the way I know the history of every teen drama TV show 1990 - Present.

2023 was a big year for me. Very big. Coming out as transgender. Beginning HRT. Having my orchiectomy.

2024 will be big, too. My divorce is final on day one, January 1st. After the remaining financial ties are untangled and separated, I can legally change my name.

And by the end of the new year, hopefully the U.S. government won't fall to the Nazis who want to murder me and my people.

Should be interesting times.
