Mon plus grand rêve dans la vie c'est de connaître un instant de bien-être absolu, même fugace, sans mal de dos, sans anxiété ni angoisse, sans ptds, sans envie pressante, sans fatigue, sans agacement, sans colère, sans inquiétude, sans avoir trop chaud ou trop froid, sans me sentir pas assez belle ou pas assez mince, sans avoir peur de vieillir, sans me demander ce que je vais bien pouvoir bouffer le soir, sans culpabilité de pas finir ce que je commence ou de pas commencer une seule des mille choses que je veux faire et sans me dire "merde j'ai oublié de racheter du PQ"
Juste une petite minute comme ça pour savoir ce que ça fait vite fait ce serait ouf

BitMover's closed-source product, BitKeeper, was used for source control for the kernel. Larry McVoy, CEO of BitMover, was upset because someone tried to figure out how the BitKeeper worked and he pulled the BitKeeper licenses from Linux developers.

Needing distributed source control, Linus Torvalds created in a couple of months.

BitMover is gone and BitKeeper is now open-source, gathering dust, in a git repository.

@ovid What always surprised me is that McVoy saw firsthand Sun making a very similar error by letting Linux overcome SunOS. How come he did not foresee what was coming? And what happened to him after?

@kcimc I'm actually doing the opposite: coming from a state in which I was compromising a lot, I realize that growing older makes me more prone to be ethical.

On the long run, all those concessions proved not to be worth it. Even worse: the people for whom you sacrificed your ethic don't remember nor believe you did so. And I can see everyday that those who clearly set boundaries are the ones respected.

After years and years of shit, acknowledging my morality made me happier than ignoring it.

My life has changed today.

Before I was but an ambivalent desktop user of , but now I am converted.

I have two operating systems because of all this Gtk4 compile business which is making my life more complicated than it needs to be.

But to be able to share the .var directory between the two year old PopOS and the alpha for 24.04 and have the installed flatpaks Just-Work with all my saved data. It's the kind of not-have-to-think-about-it that's really convincing.

@doctormo I'm wondering: since Firefox got distributed by Ubuntu via Flatpack, I have to redo a large part of my config (the one not synchronized with Firefox account) by hand at every update because it can't get back wherever is the previous config. I wouldn't want to add Inkscape to this list of painful stuff.

Comment Figma peut être aussi populaire alors que c'est même pas possible de définir des tailles en fonction de la largeur du parent (ni pourcentage ni coefficients fractionnels)... On est censé utiliser des valeurs fixes partout ??

@edgarogh Il y a un vrai stéréotype « le code c'est forcément compliqué », qui empêche pas mal de gens de se rendre compte qu'une GUI peut être beaucoup plus compliquée en pratique.

C’est sympa d’avoir des grands enfants, mais tellement ras le bol des recherches de stages/alternance/thèses ou premier emploi ! 😨

J’ai l'impression de vivre à Pôle emploi, dans le rôle du conseiller qui doit tour à tour encourager, conseiller, consoler, fouetter pour se bouger etc.

(Btw chère TL si tu as sous le coude une offre d’alternance en bac+3 de dessinateur-projeteur en mécanique en Île de France, c’est le moment de venir m’aider !)

Plants are inherently anti the zero-sum scarcity paradigm aren't they. If you give someone a cutting of your plant you still have a plant but now they have one too. They can grow it till they can give away cuttings and now more people have plants, and your plant is still there.

Prima a laissé la porte-fenêtre de la chambre ouverte en début de soirée. J'ai compté 21 moustiques (dont 18 tigres) à l'intérieur. Et 8 en attente sur la vitre, une fois fermée.

Je dois en avoir raté, bien que les tigres soient énormes. Ça va être une longue nuit.
