> Adobe Tells Users They Can Get Sued for Using Old Versions of Photoshop
We need #FLOSS tools to get to the point where they can replace Adobe tools. Open alternatives are great, but they are sadly not there yet to replace Adobe tools for professionals.
And won't be unless projects like @inkscape get enough funding to develop to a point of being viable alternatives.
@darktable@patrick_h_lauke@tek_dmn@rysiek I wonder if anybody has explored the idea of finding a sequence of edits that would give you picture A from picture B. Then people could export both the original and edited image and rebuild the edits from the image comparison.
I don't really understand the attacks on the mastodon app. There are many apps out there. Nobody is forcing you to use their app or to use mastodon.social. The fediverse is bigger than any one instance or app. Let's build a bigger fediverse and not fall into the trap of infighting, OK? #UnpopularOpinion
@shoq@jwildeboer I agree with the sentiment, but one should also consider that most people go with defaults. This means:
most people on Android, if they ever decide to try Mastodon, will go with the official app
again because of defaults, most people will end up on m.s, and this is problematic.
In some sense, the fact that most people go with defaults means that the defaults should be kept to a higher standard than the others.
I'm no longer getting notifications when people reply to my posts and mention @johncarlosbaez. The only way I can see these replies is to go back, look at old posts of mine, and scroll down to see if there are new comments.
This is a problem. It wasn't always like this, and I don't remember doing anything that caused this.
Are other people on Mathstodon getting notified of replies to their posts? If so, what settings do I have wrong?
Here are my notification preferences. I'm confused by how it says "Events for email notifications" on top. I don't want email notifications; I want notifications to show up where it says "Notifications" next to the little 🔔 on the web version of Mastodon. The notifications I'm missing are replies to my posts where people mention me. I do get notifications when people boost my my posts.
So, the #quiz will be in a «20 questions» format. I will post the soundtrack (links to the actual music) and then I'll wait for you people to try and guess things about the comic, phrased as yes/no questions (unless you think you know what comic I'm taking about, in which case I'd prefer a private message with the attempted guess). Also it's OK if we go past 20, I'm just really curious to see how much you can guess about the comic just from the soundtrack.
(And yes, I know I haven't posted anything yet. I'm on mobile and I'd rather do this from the desktop. Also I'm wondering if I should post each track in its own toot or all in one.)
(BTW since the last time I attempted this, new material has been released, so the soundtrack will have more pieces of music than before, obviously covering more scenes, which might make it even more interesting, if not easier to guess.)

@atomicpoet I have no idea why this is happening. “Original” toot links don't normally get assimilated this way on my instance, so I assume this is due either to the way you created the link or due to a policy of your instance that remaps links (either to profiles or to AP objects in general). I'm surprised it also works on my instance. When I'm on desktop I'll check the JSON to see how it's done. I'm a bit annoyed that it's inconsistent (yes profile, no toots)
@atomicpoet OK, same thing happens on the PWA. If I open the link to your post within my instance, the link to the group is opened within the context of my instance. If I open the link to your post normally (thus visiting your instance to read your post) the link goes to your instance's view of the group profile. So it seems it always gets opened locally.
@atomicpoet from Tusky it opens the profile of the group locally (i.e. as if I had put that link into my instance's search box), but that's normal for Fediverse links in Tusky. I'll try from the PWA and let you know too.
@atomicpoet additional piece of information: long-pressing the link in Tusky allows me to open it in browser and view the actual group profile page, but on the PWA this is not possible because the link is always rewritten to point to the local instance cache of the profile. From there you can then open the original page.
@atomicpoet I'm actually OK with links to federated content opening locally by default, but I would like it more if there was a way to browse remote contexts in a nested scope so that you could see the original profile or thread “as intended” (allow me the expression), without losing the possibility to interact with it with a minimum amount of clicks.
Hanlon's razor — "never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by stupidity" — is very relevant to the #AI apocalypticist BS.
It's not some future "superintelligent" AI maliciously killing people that we should worry about.
It's the poorly trained, not sufficiently understood, impossible to audit "AIs" already killing people (or otherwise fscking lives up) we need to tackle.
@erion a distributed/nomadic identity system where all clients could act a single-user servers automatically (with some automatic configuration mechanism to minimize user intervention) would do a lot to alleviate the issue too
Qualcuno sa consigliarmi una qualche banca nella quale aprirmi un conto?
Vorrei fare il conto su Banca Etica che già conosco, ma il fatto che abbiano solo uffici nei capoluoghi di regione è estremamente limitante per me.
Un NO assoluto va a Intesa Sanpaolo (omotransofobi e altra cacca), Mediolanum, Monte Dei Paschi e Poste (nonché derivati tipo Credem e compagnia)
