Gary Larson is STILL making new cartoons!!!(…!)

He retired, but he still publishes on a great website:
https://www.thefarside.com/new-stuff

New ones were published on December 7, 2023. The older ones are nearby, too!

Me too. When he chose her, McCain showed that he'd totally lost it, and that he was totally owned by ruthless, conscienceless assholes. https://universeodon.com/@Tonkey/112406856331721423

Him and the entire Republican Party. It’s like a bunch of somebodies are playing How Stupid Are They? but it’s not clear who’s winning.

WHO Overturns Dogma on Airborne Disease Spread. The CDC Might Not Act on It.

https://www.medpagetoday.com/infectiousdisease/infectioncontrol/109934?xid=nl_mpt_DHE_2024-05-05&eun=g2199647d0r

This important news even if most people that care already new it. It’s important on the face of it, it’s important the WHO is acknowledging it (again), AND it’s important that the CDC still won’t admit it.

Masks work. Indoor fresh-air ventilation works. The US Gov’t says, “Your job is to keep shopping…nothing to see here.”

People are DYING here.

Here's one of the few more modern articles I found about this Arc gene and how brains work. "Arc Regulates Transcription of Genes for Plasticity, Excitability and Alzheimer’s Disease"
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC9405677/

This link results in lots of technical articles, including one from this year:

Fairy wasp, the size of a printed period.
No. 90891644 from https://www.mindenpictures.com/stock-photo/battledore-wing-fairy-fly-(mymar-sp)-female-preserved-specimen-from-antique/search/detailmodal-0_90891644.html
Battledore-wing fairy fly (Mymar sp.) female…amongst the smallest insects on the planet…they are wasps rather than flies. They are so tiny that air is relatively thick and viscous to them. Their stalked wings are rimmed with fine hairs, enabling them to effectively row through the viscous air.

Ed Yong has posted another great one.
The Ed's Up - Birding for Long-Haulers
https://buttondown.email/edyong209/archive/the-eds-up-birding-for-long-haulers/

He’s taken up birding recently. (His PHOTOS!) He just started bird outings near Oakland, CA for COVID Long-Haulers—still trying to work out all the bugs.

I recommend all his stuff: books, articles, PHOTOS and blogging.

Thank you, Teri @Teri_Kanefield! (And thank you Chuck @ATurnOfTheNut!) I hadn't read Stephanie Jones' writing until now. She's great. Her writing really gets you, right in your heart.

Here's another blog entry of hers. Just because it also really got to me.

@outer @Teri_Kanefield @ATurnOfTheNut Thanks for sharing. I read her entire blogpost and found it be so affecting. It was great. Being of the same generation and ethnic background as Stephanie, I could so relate to her feelings about her dad. Mine, unfortunately, died young. But her dad’s philosophy was just like my mom’s and my grand-parents’: we’ve been through the worst of oppression, but never gave up. Don’t you give up either, as the next generation. @blackmastodon
