Mega rich person texts Harrell about nuisances and nearly gets what they want. The Harrell administration in a nutshell.

It makes a lot of sense to me that gun control advocates would easily and quickly convert to safe streets advocacy. There are so many parallels between the two crises and they are the two biggest causes of easily preventable death in the US.

Biggest positive takeaways from the line 2 opening:

  • The Master planned development near stations (Overlake and Spring District) is genuinely good.
  • The Spring District shallow station is awesome

Biggest negative takeaways:

  • the at grade stuff -- intersections and pedestrian access -- is extremely bad
  • Blows my mind how much parking is surrounding the stations.
  • Using highway adjacent right-of-ways is a disaster for the lines usefulness

@fbaum it will go to Redmond downtown. I don't know enough of the details to understand why that part is opening later.

Record electric vehicle sales but.... vehicle emissions still increased. You shouldn't be surprised by this. It was entirely predictable and many people who know what they're talking about have been saying this would happen.

"But Choeโ€™s heavily edited video didnโ€™t show what happened next: After leaving the parking lot, three witnesses say, Choe assaulted one of the people who had prevented him from getting closer to the migrants, punching her in the face repeatedly and sending her to the ground."

The right wing media in a nutshell.

tooters, what's your take on electric mopeds?

In the same way that e-bikes are better suited for higher speeds and longer distances than electric scooters, electric mopeds seem like they could fill a currently empty niche, but I've never actually seen one here in Seattle

Of course they require a license and insurance to drive, so that ups the cost, but are they something that we should push for?

owen,
@owen@social.ridetrans.it avatar

@jenbanim I think they're great! With that said I probably wouldn't support promoting that was oriented around dedicated infrastructure or spending. I think we need to focus on things with top speeds limited to class 2 ebikes.

Can we please just hire someone that has real experience building high quality rail...

owen,
@owen@social.ridetrans.it avatar

I need a tag or something to preface my takes that might be jumping the gun or overly negative but...

I'm sorry... It's the most Sound Transit thing possible to hire a megaprojects manager from a region with a terrible track record on megaprojects and zero urban rail experience.

This just has the exact same vibe as their last decision to hire a CEO whose experience was managing Richmond Virginia's transit.

Just a reminder that Amtrak has been hiring airline executives and it's been a huge problem.

I would absolutely consider paying more for a smaller phone. But Google decided to go with a width that's still half an inch wider than the iPhone SE. That means I still wouldn't be able to comfortably use this smaller phone with one hand.

Imagine a DOT thinking it has the moral authority to lecture anyone about safety.

Bellevue spending a decade on bike network planning and then watching the council abandon it during a two hour meeting illustrates why DOT planning is a scam.

Just build stuff.

Trump routinely and flagrantly abuses our criminal justice system and is always rewarded.

It's really encouraging to see federal agents going after gun crimes.

It's also completely unsurprising to see the gun fanatics responding by engaging in a shootout with federal law enforcement agents.

I'm absolutely convinced that 50% if this decision making is just the outcome of policymakers asking, "How do you think I could look tough?"

there are things I'm proud of, and then there's getting this pole removed by pointing out how stupid it was to block the sidewalk with a deer crossing sign

I see stuff like this and think to myself, "This required multiple people making this decision and somehow not seeing how it is a problem."

I would love if our DOTs had a culture of fast prototyping with continuous improvement.

owen,

With that said, I think this is largely due to our designers, planners and operations teams all having car brain.

Guaranteeing a high level of certainty for dangerous driving consequences is a systems approach, no different than the systems approach of street redesign.

We need both.

If you're going to advocate against specific legal consequences at least advocate for revoking licenses.
