debugging between podman's container / quadlet file with systemd is kinda tricky, especially when there is a typo in the container file, there is not warning or error i can find from journalctl. took me a whole day + night to realized that 1 single typo. the parser is just too graceful...

penryu,
@penryu@hachyderm.io avatar

@potatomeow Yeah, there are a couple linting options for containerfiles, but it's pretty free-form. :-/

Dear Math Masto,

I've been fascinated by this approach to choosing a random element from a very large sequence since I found out about it years ago.

Does anyone know where I can find out more about it?

It is discussed as "Method 2" in this link:

https://latkin.org/blog/2013/11/16/selecting-a-random-element-from-a-linked-list-3-approaches-in-f/

For today's first session we have 13 people and three of them are named Jeff. Having flashbacks to high school geometry class, when 5/25 were named Jeff and I was the only one who had a clue. Got called on a lot because the teacher was a bit lazy.

People misusing "casual" when they meant "causal" (or less often the opposite) never cease to amuse me. Casual consistency. Causal dress. 🤪

penryu,
@penryu@hachyderm.io avatar

@Obdurodon My first thought was autocorrect fail, then a misunderstanding of etymology.

Sorry, I mean systemic, semi-deliberate ignorance of etymology.

Making this post to link the next time anyone suggests Python is functional:

Harry never started a family?!

Never mind his typical life expectancy, how did one with a daily supply of fresh mangoes never find a good mate?

Has anyone ever set up a special wifi network for their "smart" devices? Seems like it might be a good way to limit traffic to the absolute minimum necessary for those devices to work, and block all of the other privacy-violating shit. Or do the people who make these things commingle the two so that doesn't really work?

penryu,
@penryu@hachyderm.io avatar

@Obdurodon definitely a good idea, but for the time being I've just gotten rid of all the IoT stuff I had

@Obdurodon I fail to see how the pain and blood is worse than a persistent, incessant itch.

See also: the first 1-2 days following wasp stings are easy — constant, soothing, dull red heat.

It's when that heat gives way to unending, mind-bending ITCHING that my sanity goes walkabout.

I can't remember when a lesson demonstrated thus was learned as taught. But it might feel good anyway.
