I imagine it is very unlikely they have comfortable exotic contact lenses in the 60s.

@richard @allstartrek they did not. He had hard plastic discs that had basically a pinhole to see through. That arrogant "looking up" kind-of thing he does adds to the character, but mainly it was because he couldn't see.

Maybe maintaining your workforce without resorting to layoffs should be a KPI. if managers have to lay off workers, they miss that KPI, and don't get their bonuses. https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/cbc-ceo-cuts-1.7099870

This is my first time playing a Star Trek themed game, thanks to the power of Proton it runs wonderfully on Linux despite being Windows only. I'm only 30 minutes in but enjoying it so far, especially since I've been rewatching DS9 again recently. It's free so far but something tells me I'm going to be up against in-game purchase limits sooner rather than later. TBD...

@hankg It's more of a "hump" than a wall, really. For a first-time playthrough on a new character, it's around the 45-50 level mark. You get a Tier 5 ship, but outgrow it pretty quick. You really want a tier 6 ship. There are ways to get one Free-to-play, but it can be a bit of a grind at first.
If you can get over that hump, it's smooth sailing from there. You can get a lot from event rewards and mission payouts. New characters on the same account will have a much better time.

@hankg Actually, come to think of it, I believe there's a Tier 6 ship coupon in the Promotions tab right now for free if I'm not mistaken. Get it!

This scene is low-key one of my favorites I’ve written for the series.

@thunderbird Is there a way to make the login window more obvious, like pop up in front of the main window and take focus, so that I know that I'm logged out, and don't assume that I have no email all day until I go to shut down?

There's a curious device used in

And, um, idk Spoilers, I guess.

Some things, usually relationships between characters, are depicted in fake/alternative realities before they actually happen

Examples:

🖖 Troi and Worf's relationship
🖖 Odo telling Kira he loves her
🖖 Tom and B'Elanna's marriage

I assume it's done that way to gauge audience reactions, but being from an alternate reality means there's always the luxury of it never happening

peregrine57,
@peregrine57@mastodon.social avatar

@lydiaconwell gauging audience reactions, maybe, possibly, even perhaps likely. But also because they want to keep the "will they, won't they" sexual tension going as long as possible without actually resolving it to keep the 'shippers coming back. Alternate realities let the audience have a taste of cake without actually eating it too.

I love all the diversity and representation in Star Trek! It's fun watching bigots squirm. I'd much rather they reflect on their bigoted opinions, and strive to better themselves. But if they refuse to do that, then watching them squirm is the next best thing.

Finished "Seasons of Light and Darkness" by Michael A. Martin. Being an ebook, it was a bit shorter than many other novels, so it was a quick read.
The novel tells the story of McCoy's time on Capella IV, and how his experiences there influenced much of his life and his career.
And features a surprise cameo appearance by Phil Plait (@badastro)
Bones has plot armor. Phil has Plait armor. And they both beamed down in blue shirts. So without getting too spoliery, the odds are in their favour.

MAS*H S10 E1&2 ‘That’s Show Biz Parts 1 & 2 - A traveling USO troupe gets stranded at the 4077 and puts on a show for the wounded.

This ep is filled w/ great moments but my favorite is when one of the performers makes Charles eat classical crow after he insults her accordion playing.

Little did he know that Amanda McBroom not only played classical piano but was also a formidable JAG who ruled Data was ultimately not the property of Starfleet on The Next Generation! Poor Charles.

Amanda McBroom in her role as performer Ellie Carlyle on MASH
Amanda McBroom as Captain Phillipa Louvois in the Star Trek: The Next Generation second season episode "The Measure Of A Man".

@gedeonm My dad used to watch MAS*H all the time back in the day. We even got him a box set. I'm pretty sure we saw them all on a loop at least half a dozen times. I somehow do not remember this episode.

So, I just made some fudge from a recipe that says to chill it once poured into a greased pan.

Given feedback on the fridge video... do y'all just never ever do that in Europe? Because, yeah, the little red fridge would not handle that well at all but I got a lot of folks being like "well, duh, you just don't put warm things in the fridge, everybody knows that" in the comments.

We don't know that because - get this - our fridges can usually just handle it!

peregrine57,
@peregrine57@mastodon.social avatar

@TechConnectify I used to work at a restaurant. It was common practice to put leftover steam tray inserts in the walk-in.
One morning, the kitchen manager informed me that the chilli insert from the night before exploded. Because it was put in warm, it expanded, and overflowed the container, making a mess on the floor.
Most fridges can usually handle it, most of the time. But every once in a while...
