I am once again encouraging to add a clause to prohibit using their server’s data for machine training into their Terms of Use, because at some point in the near future there is likely going to be a lawsuit against some major company for scraping and exploiting users’ data, and we should make sure we have a legal leg to stand on.

@neuralgraffiti @drahardja @seb Possibly dumb/RTFM question, but how is content that’s been posted to sfba.social licensed downstream? And if there isn’t a default, might I suggest CC-BY-NC-SA-4.0, with the ability for individual users to choose their own license if they wish?

@neuralgraffiti @drahardja @seb @timbray Right, but isn’t a server default necessary anyway, for the (vast majority) of users who don’t bother explicitly licensing their own content?

And isn’t a protocol enhancement also nice but unnecessary for the per-user case? For example I explicitly license my content via a simple textual statement in my profile (though again, not easily machine discoverable, unlike a protocol enhancement).

I am feeling impish tonight, so my “make SF excellent again” plan: going retro to make the city better (and driving many “it was better in the 1960s” people bonkers)

  1. 9th most populous city in the US again
  2. related: 4-6 unit housing as the dominant housing form again (sorry, Sunset)
  3. busiest public transit hub in the US again (as the Ferry Building once was)
  4. ban cars from Golden Gate Park again
  5. golf courses all become sand dunes again

@luis_in_brief 9. Twin Peaks closed to private motor vehicles (especially monster tour buses), and a dedicated Muni line added that services Christmas Tree point from the Burnett gate only (Twin Peaks Blvd from Christmas Tree point to Panorama would be closed to all vehicular traffic)
10. While we’re at it, all private tourist conveyances must be fully electric. That not only includes those yellow tricycle things but also all Lyfts and Ubers that operate in the city.
11. $20 congestion pricing fee for any private vehicle that travels on any street bounded by Market, Polk, Pacific and Embarcadero (but excluding Embarcadero itself).
12. $10/gallon gasoline tax, with 50% of funds going to SFMTA and 50% of funds going to SFPUC for renewable energy projects and/or buying and nationalising PG&E assets in the city

@luis_in_brief Ah ok - I must have missed that context. While I’m sure it’s a fun exercise to imagine just the regressive* changes that could be made that would improve the city, I’m personally more interested in any kind of feasible change (and yes some of mine may push the limits of “feasible”).

The COVID pandemic really proved that improvements can still be made quickly in the city, with just a little bit of effort. Slow streets! Vehicle free Twin Peaks! Parklets! So many good things happened, and fast too!

*I mean this in the original sense of the word, not the political sense
