As a new user, I’m enjoying Mastodon’s vibe so far but the one thing that is a letdown is the trending hashtags. I’ve been checking them regularly over the past couple of weeks and it seems like they’re pretty much always like this....
It should come as no surprise that the lemmy.ml admin team took about 2 minutes to decide to pre-emptively block threats / Meta. Their transparent and opportunistic scheme to commodify the fediverse and it’s users will not be allowed to proceed....
Mastodon.world said they won’t pre-emptively defederate (but are prepared to do so as soon as they notice something bad), so I’m guessing lemmy.world has the same stance
I do, but as more people join I’m also feeling a little republican - i got my spot and this is good; everyone on the outside can go fuck off now. I don’t want it to get so big that it’s what we left. No intended disrespect or lack of acknowledgment to those who were here before.
I made this based on the gripe about some of the silent failures with federation. Might help users choose other servers. Might help admins troubleshoot. Open to comments and criticisms!
This is awesome! Hopefully it’ll help spread the load among instances. Definitely going to use this to see which instance to move to (and which to avoid)
Has this ever happened? From what I can tell asking people to fix their issues is the first step, and defederation only happens when they can’t/won’t fix them yet
There is a big difference between mild NSFW and full on porno. Suppose there is a News story with photo/video but it's a little bit graphic or violent. Nobody is jacking off to that. Maybe shouldn't view it at work, but in the library is fine....
From what I see, that specific post was only because it sounded like lemmynsfw would allow loli. For me the biggest issue is that the porn would occasionally flood my front page because of that one bug (that got fixed), I really don’t want to see porn when I’m just browsing (but I have nothing against it existing on Lemmy).
For me what makes something porn would be the intent: is it made/shared for sexual arousal. Something can be porn without any nudity, and you can have any amount of nudity without it being porn.
The admin of sh.itjust.works has been approached but as of yet has failed to reply to concerned Lemmy users. I’m glad Beehaw admins look out for us by cutting off instances that host communities like this.

Since Reddit content being used to train AI was part of what triggered their Dumb Actions™️, is there a way to deal with this on Lemmy? If there's a way to license API access or the content itself under, say, LGPL to prevent commercial AI from using it that would be awesome. With the way ActivityPub works I'm not sure if...

Links kind of break things because they take you to a different website, even though it's content you can access from the one you're on. I think there are people working on fixing that.

The migration of large communities from Reddit to Lemmy is like a world-renowned band performing an acoustic set in a library for 50 people.
The fanbase is still large, but the Lemmy community hasn’t quite caught up yet, and now there is a transitional period where the audience is smaller.
