It’s likely many of them already are operating out of St. Petersburg.

Wow, lebensraum, lugenpresse and endlosung. They’re, umm, really really trying…

This stuff should ring alarm bells for anyone who studied history, because these are 1920s/1930s Germany-style micro movements.

Naziism didn’t start with the Final Solution. It didn’t start with work camps. It didn’t even start with the beer Hall putsch. It started with things like this.

Boy, I bet the Democrats feel really good about how much of a good partner they were to the petroleum industry, slow-walking reasonable regulations, helping them with funding, etc.

I bet they feel great seeing this.

If they do manage to pull out a win in November, it needs to be no more Mr Nice Neoliberal. Bust the industry’s collective balls.

Because their government doesn’t want to acknowledge that religion isnt the same as ethnicity. If they did, they’d lose the entire excuse about it being their land ancestrally.

It’s interesting, because this is almost exactly the same inconsistency the Nazis used to practice.

Remove a wheel, seat and/or handlebars when you lock up. A lot, and I mean a lot, of bikes are stolen out of convenience, and not having a wheel means that someone can’t easily ride it away.

This won’t deter a motivated Igor Kenk-style thief that steals tens of bikes a day, but it’ll make you less of an opportunity to casual addicts looking to for a ride for the night or something they can flip for cash or drugs.

It was never left or right, it’s about power and money.

The Palestine protests threaten the wealthy but things like LGBTQ rights don’t. The former could be a flashpoint for general anti-capitalist action, while the latter has essentially been subsumed into mainstream neoliberalism ans is, at best, a great way to distract and redirect from class issues to culture war bullshit.

The rich are happy to have us fighting culture wars instead of class wars. That’s why they’re pushing the “antisemitism” narrative because it keeps people’s eyes off of the real issue.

If Democrats want change, this is how to do it:

  1. Win general elections; vote blue no matter who. 2 Primary out the corporatist candidates every chance there is, right down to the level of school trustee.

This actually works, as we’ve seen with the GOP and their turn to rabid fascism. It can also work for good.

There’s a psychological phenomenon, a cascade effect, that causes people’s perceptions to flip if enough people around them also change their minds.

It’s not nefarious, or a sign of stupidity or ignorance, it’s part of how social primates like humans work. And it’s something that the Right knows to work, and is exploiting.

It’s how we got LGBTQ rights, and it’s how we’ll lose them if we, and especially the media, don’t stop giving these troglodytes and their ideas oxygen.

Anyone who tells you that if we just educate people it’ll make a difference ( it won’t, cf the Backfire Effect) and that “sunshine is the best disinfectant” is either woefully ignorant of how humans work, or is actively disingenuous.

Tl;dr radical centrists are paving stones on the path to He’ll.

I highly encourage you to listen to translations of Hitler’s rallies, because they’re the same kind of nonsense.

Interesting!

I always assumed TNG used Stop, but I obviously wasn’t paying attention enough.

I’m sure that as soon as, eg, Donald Trump or some other prominent conservatism locked up we’ll be hearing about how “unfair” the prison system is.

Sort of like how due-process and prisoner wellbeing suddenly became something Republicans cared about when J6 folks started getting thrown in predetention.

We need the rich to accept making less money, worldwide.

That’s really it.

We can probably slow the rate of increase and even begin to reverse it, but we need to convince the rich that they need to accept making less money.

This is what the State is afraid of: not that people will protest Israel’s actions, but that the left might organize trans-nationally and demand better from their governments.

They’ve been happy to let the political Right metastatize because at least fascism can be good for business, but they’re terrified of the rest of us realizing the we have the numbers and that the rich need us more than we need them.

They had a narrow escape in 2008 and spent the last decade and a bit stoking culture wars. The last thing the west wants is it’s own Arab Spring.

Biden to deploy CIA director to help broker major Gaza deal (www.washingtonpost.com)

President Biden plans to dispatch CIA Director William J. Burns in the coming days to help broker an ambitious deal between Hamas and Israel that would involve the release of all remaining hostages held in Gaza and the longest cessation of hostilities since the war began last year, according to officials familiar with the...

If you had the top people in Netanyahu’s government whacked, as well as a few upper-echelon Hamas leaders, it’s probably sort out a lot of the issue.

So maybe this is up the CIA’s alley?

Maybe if we didn’t spend the futures of the young on tax cuts for the rich?

From the outside looking in, it would appear that Labour is yet another pseudo-progressive party that got addicted to corporate cash during the late 1990s flowering of neoliberalism ans aren’t willing to let go.

It’s the same thing in most western Nations, and it has the awful side effect of making what were previously “reasonable” right wing parties into proto-fascists put of self defense.

So, when do churches that support Trump lose their tax-exemption status?

psvrh,

I maintain we need to measure social group distance in a unit I’ll call “Niemollers”, after the pastor and poet.

As in “how many Niemollers am I away from '…and there was no one left to speak for me '”

Because the Log Cabin Republicans are probably three Niemollers. He’ll Clarence Thomas is five, maximum.

So we dismantle playgrounds, defund schools, make after-school activities into a cash-grab, defund mental-health and addiction services and kick problematic people out into the street, allow commercial landlords to squeeze out businesses that kids might frequent and, like you say, make neighbourhoods that are designed to maximize developer profits and now you lay this on millenial and zoomer parents?

Yeah, I have to agree, screw the “…bbbbut my tax dollars!!” crowd. They built this.

psvrh,
@psvrh@lemmy.ca avatar

No.

Because if he passed meaningful reform, there would never be another Liberal majority. They’d prefer to exchange majorities with the CPC every few years, than to denied exclusive access to the levers of power for ever.

psvrh,

No kidding.

This is like healthcare, which every other nation has mostly solved, but the Americans bend over backwards to find the most byzantine “solutions “ for just to avoid taxing the rich and/or implementing a functioning welfare state.

The latest hysterical example was importing drugs from Canadian pharmacies because apparently buying from a (barely) socialist country is okay, but basic bargaining is somehow immoral.

Politicians and dog experts vilify South Dakota governor after she writes about killing her dog (apnews.com)

Politicians and dog experts are criticizing South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem after she wrote in a new book about killing a rambunctious puppy. The story — and the vilification she received on social media — has some wondering whether she’s still a viable potential running mate for presumptive Republican presidential candidate...

It’s a man-bites-dog story, both figuratively and literally.

People being cruel to animals as part of the food chain? It’s a day that ends in “y”

A potential vice president of the United States killed a dog because she didn’t like it? That’s newsworthy.

It might focus attention on animal cruelty.

Side note: Joe Biden very clearly likes his dogs, and treats them perhaps a little too well. Donald Trump famously doesn’t have any pets, and uses euphemisms like “…like a dog” to invoke cruelty. Make of that what you will.

Nationalism is almost always bad, why should Israeli Nationalism be any different?

Ask yourself: if it was any other country or ethnicity, would it be “good” nationalism? Would an American or Russian Nationalist worry you? How about a Rwandan or Serbian nationalist?

Chances are the answer is “yes” (unless you’re a fascist), so why does Israeli nationalism get a free pass?

Have they tried building average, affordable condos instead of luxury condos?

They don’t want to, because that would mean less money. If they slap some cheap faux marble and an extra sink in the bathroom, they can charge tens of thousands of dollars more for the same space.

The rich will not accept making the same or less money for a year or so. They have to have more. A lot more.
