Trainer: you wrote "parent" as your relation to K1

Me: yes

Trainer: why?

Me: because I'm their parent

Trainer: are you their mother or what?

Me: what does it matter? I'm their parent

Trainer: um. I've never seen that, but I suppose it's okay?

I sure hope it's okay to be a parent.

Manchmal frage ich mich wirklich, warum ich so blöd bzw. träge bin. Wurde dringend Zeit, dass ich meine Bank wechsele. Heute endlich den ersten Schritt in eine bessere (und gleichzeitig viel günstigere) Zukunft gemacht. Leute, schaut euch regelmäßig an, was eure Hausbank für Gebühren nimmt! Da gibts echt gewaltiges Einsparpotential - auch ohne zu windigen Banken im Ausland zu wechseln!

@skye it was SO disappointing trying to get into these circles. There I was, all "hey, you're my people, I'm so glad I found you" and the reaction was mostly "what are YOU doing here?"

Trying to fit in hurt, not belonging also hurt. I'm happy I've since found other nerdy and geeky people!

I'm just always amazed when people have these beautiful, stylish homes, because I have no idea where they find the time. I'd love to live this way, but it's never going to happen.

@Firyar that's true. At this point in my life I have the money, but replacing things that work perfectly fine with matching sets still feels like frivolous luxury.

Regarding time, I think decorating is also a relaxing hobby for some people, something they like to do in their free time?

Ehrlich, ich wünsche mir, dass Menschen direkt von entsprechenden Genitalkonfigurationen und oder anatomischen Voraussetzungen sprechen, wenn es um Sex oder medizinische Dinge geht, anstatt von "Männern" und "Frauen" zu sprechen!

Also ich meine, z. B. statt zu sagen "Bei Männern gibt es das Risiko auf Prostatakrebs" zu sagen "Bei Menschen, die eine Prostata haben, gibt es dort ein Krebsrisiko" o. ä.

@skye @1oury1 ich ärgere mich auch oft übers misgendert werden, aber das ist ein guter Punkt: gerade mit Hinweisen zu sinnvoller Vorsorge will man auch die erreichen, die nicht wissen, was cis, ein Uterus, oder eine Prostata ist. Und das sind halt derzeit leider einige.

Mir wäre da eine Fußnote schon ausreichend: "Vorsorge Prostata-Krebs: sinnvoll für Männer* ab...
Jahren, *außerdem für..., und..., nicht für..."

Die planlosen lesen die Fußnote eh nicht. Mit der Zeit lernen die es aber auch.

So, in today's strange progesteroney dream, I was supposed to catch a plane from Stanstead to Tel Aviv for some unclear reason, and when I had gotten into the taxi to get to the airport, the taxi driver broke into an ad of "This taxi is sponsored by Down Goer Five, a simple 18-month course accessible to everybody who wants to build their own submarines". The taxi driver asked me to like and subscribe, but also wanted to be paid.

mastodon (specifically): full of moderately tech-competent queers who like to draw, write, make videos, print t-shirts, etc, at marketable quality, and are very invested in a more open, more accessible and equitable society

the broader fediverse: full of FLOSS devs whose projects could provide amazing tools to thousands, bridging social gaps and giving people at the margins of society a chance to participate more fully and freely, if only these projects had reasonable documentation, how-tos, and some kind of (for lack of a better word) marketing

is anyone else seeing the potential union of love that i'm seeing here?

(There sure are the ones for whom "MY code doesn't NEED documentation" is a point of pride. Dude, just nope.)

To make today's travels perfect, I now had to use my full older educated white person in semiformal clothing privilege to talk to the train's service personnel, who aggressively misinformed a young person* about the validity of their ticket.

This included showing service person their own terms of service and asking their name, while they continued to tell yell at the passenger.

Can I now hide somewhere? That was sort of like the last drop making all overflow.

@riley @eightfiftythree @Skreee yes, what people (not just police, also others in authority) do when they're alone with someone is often markedly different than what they do if there's a witness. Sometimes it's enough to just come near and take an interest in what's happening - both my brother and I have done that in racial profiling situations: come over while being white, ask profiled person as if you know them "hey, what's going on?"
