The argument that "we need to preemptively protect people from blahblahblah" is really someone saying "I believe I know what's best for others and as such, I should decide who people are and are not allowed to talk to" which is some psycho fascist shit
A kolektiva.social admin was raided by the FBI, who recovered an unencrypted database backup from their computer.
These are the people telling you how to run your server, and encouraging centralization onto just a few instances.
Please remember, even if your instance is run by a benevolent paragon of praxis, who you're 1000% sure would never ever cooperate with the feds.... there's a whole ecosystem of ISPs, hosting providers, and the admin's very own incompetence that makes it Literally Just Any Other Website.
For example, why was the admin's disk unencrypted? Even if they didn't have a db backup, they likely still had ssh keys that could have been used by the feds to log in to the instance.
Oh and one more thing... Finding about about a mid-May raid in July is fucking unacceptable. When I was raided by the cops in 2011, people on services I operated knew that hour and were able to cut access.
@r000t
> leftoid proposes collectivisation
> it ends poorly
> it rapes your rights and privacy
Every time, without fail, without exception, without remorse. Subhuman ideology remains subhuman.
Expect lots more stories like this as part of a larger push to require a loicense to run FOSS code on your own computer that you paid for.
The top-rated comments where I found this were mostly "omg only allow trusted people to have this tech" (who decides what entities are trustworthy?). The most buried comments were "photoshop already exists"
Criminalize the distribution of non-consensual pornography. Do NOT require a loicense to run computer code.
I will not, for any reason, be obtaining a loicense to run code on my god damned computer. Period. This is not up for negotiation.
I've been photoshopped into compromising positions, too. I've been framed and jailed on fabricated evidence. At no point did I call for a loicense to be required to have an email account.
Let me also make this perfectly clear: If there is any attempt to encroach on my right to run any software I fucking desire on my fucking computer, I will create one-touch tools to create the thing you're using as a justification. And it will be hosted in the fucking Ukraine on a bulletproof host.
It will be a tool that accepts a social media profile, creates a LoRA, and spits out the nastiest, most gut-wrenching porn one can imagine. (With a watermark, I'm not Satan). Do not fuck with me on this. However bad you think this is, I can make it infinitely worse.
And I'm going to start with every lawmaker sponsoring any bill to require loicense to run otherwise free and open software.
@r000t normal people should just embrace the plausible deniability the AI fakes give. photography essentially is worthless as evidence now. video will soon be worthless. instead they choose to be triggered that someone might do pr0n with all the pictures they posted out of vanity for the whole fucking world to see, as they got zero impulse control.
legislators want AI to be gone because of the implications for evidence. they want the fun tools to create incriminating shit to jail everyone of bother.
