I have released a new version with a fix (1.0.2).

Is not a big bug, but it was there and now is not!

You can get it from: https://www.usebox.net/jjm/heart-of-salamanderland/

Looking at the issue of the loading screen rip-off, I just noticed my first ever 8-bit game was released in October 2014 (for the 48k), so this October it will be 10 years since I started this... hobby.

It wasn't a great game, barely functional because there were so many things I didn't know, both at hardware level and the most essential stuff 😂, but eventually... I got better at it!

@Tijn it is awesome how quick it is picking it up. He made this name bold, without any hints from me 😂

The good thing about 8-bit games is how portable they are (essentially wherever you have an emulator).

sitting here wondering if i've ever actually fully completed any final fantasy game and uhh

... i dont think i've finished literally a single one despite having played 1, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, crisis core, tactics, and tactics advance

i've gotten to the end in 5, 6, 7, 8, and 10 but something always happened that stopped me from beating the final boss. my save corrupted in 5, idk wtf happened in 6, i recall getting frustrated in 7 and 8, and in 10 i decided to get all the ultimate weapons and quit playing in disgust after finally beating the stupid chocobo race

weird thing to realize

reidrac,
@reidrac@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

@eniko so you skipped 9, which is the one I got closest to finish (I gave up in the final boss rush).

It is perhaps the most accessible, or at least it was for me.

So one of the biggest businesses in the world that serves by far the most consumers in the non-smartphone computing department does something incredibly harmful and it seems like the main thing Linux users are picking up from this is "oh neat what a great new recruiting tool!"

Idk man. That feels a bit gross

reidrac,
@reidrac@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

@eniko yep, and this is not new. In computing, you always live with the consequences of the decisions of the majority.

If Microsoft thinks this will work is partly because they have pulled it out before similar moves undermining people's privacy and the users are now "educated".

It sets the threshold of what is acceptable.

tallship, to foss

Okay it's one of those, "What's peculiar here?" kinda things.

Consider the source itself. And I certainly don't mean code of any sort. 'Why' would 'They' cite Wikipedia, as good a resource as anyone might think it to be?

Why not cite yourself? Instead of citing someone else - who will merely turn right around and cite you as the ultimate source reference?

, get it? I was rather amused. Anyway, Here it is.

h/t to: @csolisr You can haz ! 🍔

@reidrac@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

@tallship I like the "for reference purposes". That's not what the licence says 😂

reidrac,

@tallship makes me wonder who approved this and what was the level of understanding of it 😂

I'm currently in the process of leaving my company, and I guess they like me because they're holding me hostage based on the terms in my contract (105 days!)

Something tells me if I had been a bit shit they might have let me go a month early, which is what I asked for 💀

Damned if you do, damned if you don't!

reidrac,
@reidrac@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

@SirLich that sucks, if you don't enjoy your holidays days I'm surprised you don't get paid. Is that legal?

It is usual that you get the pending days at the end of the period (prorated).

@vga256@dialup.cafe avatar

i haven't seen anyone talk about this project, and i can't believe how fast it has matured since i peeked in on it last year.

Fallout 1 & 2 Community Edition are full-on reverse engineered re-implementations of the game engines for win/mac/linux/ios/android.

FO1 was never much of a problem, because it ran very well in dosbox for decades. but FO2 was always another story - it was a 32-bit windows-only title, and it's always been a real pain in the ass to run.

@vga256 I need to try this again, the last time (shortly after release), the 1st one crashed on me in the first 5 minutes of play 😅

May be there have been fixes.

And these are the before and after pictures of the cast metal frame. I used deoxit and an old cloth and cotton buds to remove the dirt and cover the metal at the same time with the deoxit, which usually gives a very thin coating that will protect the metal. Smells horribly though. :)
I think I will need to lube the top and bottom ball bearings of the spindle. The top one I can reach easily. For the bottom one I probably have to unmount the flywheel, but I don't want to...

A much cleaner metal frame, with significantly less visible corrosion

reidrac,
@reidrac@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

Essentially, you sit there and wait 😂

Yep. A PDF viewer written in JS and running in the browser. That did always sound like a great idea to me.

Sure. All software can have bugs, etc. Still, that PDF viewer has access to stuff that perhaps it shouldn't.

reidrac,
@reidrac@mastodon.sdf.org avatar

@ParadeGrotesque something, something sandbox. Something, something is more secure than any other viewer 🙄

That is what I was told when it was first released.

And to some extent, it is true. And now Firefox is the best PDF viewer I have installed in my Linux machine.

Yet... feels a bit like it is in the wrong place.
