I've accepted that streaming services like Hulu will never give me a simple playlist option so I could just load it with my favorite episodes from my favorite shows and let it run (and not have to constantly fucking select them).

I also reserve the right to be forever annoyed about this

@rootcompute@mastodon.social avatar

@jake4480 Yet another W for piracy. Streaming services cant stop catching Ls

Bootleg unlicensed games never died: They evolved into Steam Direct shovelware asset swaps.

@lonelyautomata Ahh yes, my old favorite game Adolescent Transforming Warrior Frogs

Some people like making drama because they're bored. You have to recognize those kinds of people, remember that about them, and avoid them if possible (or as much as possible) if you don't wanna waste your time

rootcompute,
@rootcompute@mastodon.social avatar

@jake4480 You can't avoid them when you live in a small town lmao

Personal catch-phrase of the month: It's all just so exhausting™

I have it on good authority that "Switch 2" (named the "Swipe") is a card-based console with a card reader built into the unit. The cards, once swiped, unlock access to: full games, wallpapers, avatars, DLC, and even apps like Hulu, YouTube, and Netflix. The Swipe will be released by the end of Q2 2025, alongside over 200 cards purchased separately in booster packs.

One of the neat things about this is that, if you still have old e-Reader cards, you can swipe them for fun extras.

rootcompute,
@rootcompute@mastodon.social avatar

@buru5 Hoping all of the games are card-based too. The best video games are the ones where you have to play a card before performing any type of action

rootcompute,
@rootcompute@mastodon.social avatar

@buru5 A card-based sequel could be just what the F-Zero fanbase needs in 2025

May I suggest Persona 5: Royal?

Yet to hear a compelling argument for not blocking all of threads.net

rootcompute,
@rootcompute@mastodon.social avatar

@jake4480 Smart man. Most accounts I see on there appear to be grindset influencers, I came here to escape that kind of thing lol

rootcompute,
@rootcompute@mastodon.social avatar

@lonelyautomata I am tempted. Doesn't appear to be anything of value so far

rootcompute,
@rootcompute@mastodon.social avatar

@buru5 They pretty much only pop up when I'm browsing the global federated timeline. If not for that I'd probably be blissfully unaware

rootcompute,
@rootcompute@mastodon.social avatar

@lonelyautomata Yea I generally agree but I mean, I still use Twitter for certain things even though it's owned by another dumb out of touch billionaire. At a certain point you just have to decide for yourself which tradeoffs are worth it.

I'm not on threads by choice but it doesn't really harm me to see what's on there via federation. If there's a cool retro gaming account worth following I wouldn't be opposed, but the content appears to be far from that

Do you ever get the feeling that you're the main character in a video game called Shadow Madness?

rootcompute,
@rootcompute@mastodon.social avatar

@jake4480 I feel like I had a dream about this one time

rootcompute,
@rootcompute@mastodon.social avatar

@buru5 Fair enough, I feel like your madness is more out in the open

@jake4480 Great post, I 100% endorse your message. Homebrew (and fan reverse-engineering in general) is the way, forever.

People keep rewarding these companies for crummy practices, even those who grumblingly or ironically support companies they know have no respect for them or other customers.

The game industry has a long way to go to earn my respect again, and they by and large have shown no signs of getting back on the right path. We will always have the retro stuff to fall back on

rootcompute,
@rootcompute@mastodon.social avatar

@jake4480 Would be happy to share any knowledge and encouragement, I managed to help someone else mod their 3DS recently! I need to mod my xbox360 and PS3 someday soon if I can get motivated.

Some systems are easier than others to get modded, there's a wealth of resources out there for people to take matters into their own hands. Dedicated fans who pioneer these sorts of practices are true heroes to me

@jake4480 Damn son good luck! Never cracked open a wii before. Hope that goes smoothly
