Radical idea for social media: we should be able to leave a like on other people's like actions. If somebody likes (or "favorites" in Mastodon parlance) my post, I should be able to express that I like that they liked what I had to say

We could continue giving each other back and forth likes until eventually two accounts bound together in reciprocal liking reach the like singularity

I have it on good authority that #Nintendo "Switch 2" (named the "Swipe") is a card-based console with a card reader built into the unit. The cards, once swiped, unlock access to: full games, wallpapers, avatars, DLC, and even apps like Hulu, YouTube, and Netflix. The Swipe will be released by the end of Q2 2025, alongside over 200 cards purchased separately in booster packs.

One of the neat things about this is that, if you still have old e-Reader cards, you can swipe them for fun extras.

So many gaming sites writing about how “Bungie” released Marathon on Steam or it’s “now free”.

Frustrating to see people not doing basic checks. It was the Aleph One team, not Bungie, and it’s been free for years. It’s just now on Steam.

I'm confused at why people think it is a good idea to put individual .7z, .zip or .rar archives into the main directory instead of properly using a folder. Stop doing this please.

It's hard to even imagine the horror Palestinians are suffering right now at the hands of a genocidal Israeli government. It just fills my heart with such anguish I cannot focus on anything else, really.

This entire "war" on malnourished children and grieving parents is the biggest travesty I have seen in my life.

Optimism is a political value, and one that's highly contextual at that. Being optimistic in the face of overwhelming opposition is a form of radical progressiveism, but being optimistic about a proposed technology or policy by ignoring the potential or likely harm is a form of reactionary conservatism.

It behooves us to be responsibly optimistic, rather than either naive or defeatist.

Thousands upon thousands of police are surrounding Columbia University and raiding the building occupation there now, determined to crush the movement in solidarity with those experiencing genocide in Gaza.

Every time a mercenary puts on an NYPD uniform, selling their capacity to inflict violence to the highest bidder, they are committing treason against humanity.

We salute the courage of those occupying the university. This struggle is far from over.

AI, and companies’ obsession with using it, is mostly two things. 1) FOMO by the LinkedIn class, and 2) a general lack of understanding of what AI is, or why we’re even talking about it in the first place.

Related: an easy way for execs to tell me they’re bad at their jobs is to say stuff like “what are we doing with AI?”

Let’s talk instead about problems we’re trying to solve and what is at our disposal to do so.
