    So people pay $499 to not be hidden in your "Someone liked you" and have the ability to send 2 messages without matching (but only to people who haven't opted out for free/blocked them on sight)

    If you purchase a mammoth enough PC, it doubles as a space heater. Should it seem to underachieve, open an Unreal Engine editor.

    @stevesplace run some benchmarks too

    Question for people driving electric vehicles: Do you carry a portable Level 2 charger in your car, and if so, what NEMA adapters do you carry with it?

    I'm contemplating if it's worth me having something bigger than a NEMA5-20 at the front of my garage for visitors. Can't quite justify installing a fixed Level 2 charger since I don't actually have an EV myself.

    rudi,

    @kwf I carry a 14-50 adapter, but I also have an adapter that makes the 14-50 fit a standard RV 30amp outlet (with the proper settings to match)

    As well as the normal (for US) 3 prong trickle adapter

    Am moderately drunk on some inexpensive Spanish fizzy wine.

    Sometimes, maybe once every couple of months, I hit the stress reset button like this, and I am not sorry.

    rudi,

    @grrrr_shark

    Oooo fizzy wine sounds like a good way to do it too!

    All the time, because our values don't always line up with everyone else's so something minor or inconsequential to us might be massive to mindless drones that can't function outside of their social norms

    You know, when my daughter started DJing a while back, I thought it was so cool - I haven't made music in so long, and this seemed like a way to do it without having to go back and relearn a ton of instruments upfront, so I kinda thought of doing it, but, well, never did.

    She stopped and wants to start again. I kinda wanna come along for the ride this time... hrm.

    rudi,

    @grrrr_shark you should try it and see if you like it! Maybe you'll find you want to get back into an instrument too 🤷‍♂️ anything is possible 😀

    Some autistic people find making phone calls extremely stressful and unpleasant and will avoid them at all costs.

    Please don’t try and force your communication preferences on others.

    I vaguely remember #GoogleIO from a year or two ago mentioning a way to have Google assistant place calls and schedule appointments for you. I've never actually looked into how to use it though, I just use the Call Screen feature on incoming calls

    How do my #ActuallyAutistic comrades handle bullies in the wild and online?

    How do you take care of yourself after being bullied?

    Logic and psychology, I usually try to determine what the bully is missing that makes them feel like it's appropriate to treat me they way they were rather than taking their words face value

    Answered a question on Hacker News about using ChatGPT for programming tasks with a bunch of my own examples... https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=37126182#37127206

    Comments so far include "If someone on my team was doing things this unusually they’d probably be let go" and "sorry but these examples are not impressive at all and by no means a representative of any serious programmer's workload"

    A lot of people out there are absolutely determined not to take the practical utility of this stuff seriously!

    rudi,

    @simon

    LLMs are great when used properly, a lot of people would rather put in as little effort as possible and make fun of the mistakes LLMs produce instead. Doesn't matter how easy or difficult your task is, all that matters is if you and the LLM can discuss it in a way that'll give you good results without wasting unnecessary time

    @darth welcome to the bright side lol been running Linux for gaming since 2008 here, has always been written/tested in behind the scenes so it's been pretty smooth up until the based Battle.net launcher

    rudi,

    @darth once you invest in it, your experience changes dramatically. You stop trying to think of the windows ways to do things and games like Destiny seem less appealing when you have to install a kernel level virus to play them 😂

    rudi,

    @darth Warframe has so much STORY now 😍

    rudi,

    @mission_europa @darth

    These all play like native:

    , III, II
    Baldur's Gate 3
    Alien: Isolation
    Subnautica
    Warframe

    Skyrim
    Fallout 4
    No Man's Sky
    The Mortuary Assistant
    GTA5
    Hogwarts Legacy
    Cyberpunk 2077
    I've played a bunch of the resident evil games
    Tron 2.0 has been a Wine/GOG favourite
    Portal & 2
    BioShock remastered & 2
    Call of Duty World at War
    RIFT
    Saints Row IV
    All of the Games (shared engine)
    The outlast games
    Dragon age: origins
    Wizard 101

    After a professional diagnosis of autism some autistic people can doubt their diagnosis. Years of internalized ableism and doubts from others can contribute to a feeling of being an imposter.

    Imposter syndrome isn’t discussed as much in the community but is something many struggle with.

    This is a big one, I feel like I was critiqued for eye contact as a kid so I became conscious about how much eye contact/if I'm staring etc- but as a kid so now as an adult I'm always conscious about things like that.. Which make diagnosis difficult because you can compensate for some shortcomings to a point but at the cost of stamina, so someone who only sees you for short interviews wouldn't notice the behavior change

    rudi,

    @Muemmelmann @fugepe it's better with Steam games, especially with Proton supporting EAC on some games now

    We’ve had to temporarily limit mastodon.social’s federation here on social.lol due to an insane influx of spambot activity from the instance. Once we get the all-clear that it’s been handled on their end, we’ll remove the limitation. Sorry for the inconvenience.

    rudi,

    @adam is mastodon.social or mstdn.social the new coerced option for if you use the AppStore app instead of signing up through an instance?

    rudi,

    @adam personally I don't believe in coincidences like this, why target mastodon.social over multiple smaller instances with potentially less security/smaller teams other than it being the de facto for new users

    rudi,

    @adam essentially just a DoS attack or DDoS on the actual population of the instance
