TIL in the Carboniferous Period, no fungus existed to decompose trees. They just grew on top of each other up and up.

The weight of the trees was so great that the ones on the bottom got squished and became coal. That’s where coal is from. Bonus fact: the whole time this was happening, sharks were hunting in the oceans. Sharks are older than trees and fungus!

How to randomly pad files before encryption to prevent file fingerprinting?

Hi, I was planning to encrypt my files with GPG for safety before uploading them to the cloud. However, from what I understand GPG doesn’t pad files/do much to prevent file fingerprinting. I was looking around for a way to reliably pad files and encrypt metadata for them but couldn’t find anything. Haven’t found any...

Just use rclone. It does this natively.

I always check my bag and haven’t had any go missing in nearly 15 years. It’s a lot better with the bar-coded tags and automation.

Aurora Store on GrapheneOS: Server not found? (lemmy.today)

I’m running the latest GrapheneOS with no VPN and yesterday it was failing and saying “if you’re using one, try disconnecting from proxy/VPN” and today it’s saying server not found. This happens regardless whether I click on Anonymous, or Anonymous (insecure)....

I have to have WhatsApp installed on one of my phones for work purposes. It’s not possible to ask my work to give me a phone (I’m on zero-hours contract). I do this. However, you need to connect using the WhatsApp client every 12 days just to keep it “alive” otherwise WhatsApp servers sign the bridge out.

Was it ever a competition? BitTorrent was that volume because that’s what people were doing. Now with streaming there’s less incentive to sail the high seas.

You don’t need UDP on port 80 forwarded through. HTTP is TCP only.
