scrappy_Duncan,

This exactly, except Ibuse a DeWalt. I have found that the brand power tool used has little effect on the taste and extraction, however.

This Weeks' Candidate(s) (lemmy.sdf.org)

I’ve been touring local (to Lexington, KY) roasters’ espresso blends for the last couple months - a bag lasts me a week or two and we have a whole slate of small roasters so it’s a slow process. I’m consciously working on my shot tuning and palate as I go, bringing each espresso blend to a roughly 16:34g/ 5s preeinfusion...

scrappy_Duncan,

I live pretty close to your area and just bought my first bag of whole bean coffee this week (previously just got pre-ground packages from the grocery). Most of the coffee shops in my area (eTown) use Senergos as their roaster, so that’s what we got to start. Excited to try some other stuff regionally.

scrappy_Duncan,

Staining red oak for a slat wall around our fireplace. Hope to get it installed this week.

BrianAllred, to Insurance

I just don't understand why it's so fucking hard for insurance companies to just do their goddamn jobs. I've been on the Dexcom G6 for years, stop trying to tell me I don't need it, you aren't my doctor, you don't see me, you don't talk to me, you have no idea who I am or what my problems are. Don't fucking tell me what I do or don't need.

@diabetes

scrappy_Duncan,

I feel ya. They technically are doing their jobs. Their job is to try as hard as they can to screw you over so that their bosses can buy a fifth house and yacht in the Caman Islands. And those Dexcom G6s just seem like a totally unnecessary expense when you can just pee on the stick at the Dr office once a week to check your BG levels.

scrappy_Duncan,

I don’t see how he could have survived. But I hope he did for his sake.

Does Lemm.ee plan to de-federate from instagram threads?

I cam here to get away from all the corporate BS, but suddenly people want to welcome Facebook/Meta to the fediverse? I cannot fathom how people see their intentions as pure or innocent, especially since they aim to profit off of the open source software everyone has worked so hard on....

scrappy_Duncan,

Agreed. And believe me you, they’ll find a way to screw us all over if we give them half a chance.

scrappy_Duncan,

I'd say the Ford (I have a Focus ST) but the lotus would probably have it beat.

scrappy_Duncan,

So, dumb question but what is exploding-heads? Are they actual Nazis or like far-right wackos and MAGA nuts?

scrappy_Duncan,

That comment sounds a little bigoted.

Slow living is inherently anti-capitalist, but the aesthetic is not (i-d.vice.com)

Many elements of what people consider to be “living slowly” are connected back to pre-technology life, reflecting a collective yearning for offline simplicity. However — like other escapist trends (like cottagecore and coastal grandmother-core) that it has risen in conjunction with — it’s gone from being a helpful...

scrappy_Duncan,

Yesterday I swung by someone’s house for something and she was out in the treehouse reading or writing something. No social media. Didn’t see a phone. Just enjoying the moment. Best quote from Secret Life of Walter Mitty, “Beautiful things don’t ask for attention”. The moment when the world famous photographer sees the elusive snow leopard he’s been chasing and rather than take the photo he just sits there and breathes in that moment. Not even doing what he came to do just so he gets to fully experience it. That’s slow living. It’s inherently anti-social media

scrappy_Duncan,

My 2013 Toyota Highlander has a similar system.

scrappy_Duncan,

Yeah, basically this. That's the beauty of it.

scrappy_Duncan,

Our new patio furniture and spending time relaxing outside on it.

How to live simply with kids?

My wife and I lead a pretty simple life. I work from home at a low-stress job. She is a stay-at-home mom. We have a small house, a garden, and some chickens. But we have a 3-month-old and a two-year-old. Nothing about our life feels slow or simple. On top of watching the kids there's always tons cleaning to do and house repairs...

scrappy_Duncan, (edited )

Some good advice and sorta what I didn't want to hear lol. My wife and I do have a night every week when family watches the kids and we go on a date or just spend time together. I think I just have to come to terms with the fact that the house will always need cleaned and that there will always be a list of maintenance things that need done. I guess my issue is that I often need a clean house and mind in order to have peace. So maybe I need to work on my mentality with those things to have peace even with things that need done and a messy house.

scrappy_Duncan,

Excellent work and thank you for being transparent in your decision. I think it was the right call and I appreciate your work on contributing to the Lemmy code base.

scrappy_Duncan,

I work in IT so I'm really techy and I'm in the same boat. I can't understand why anyone would want smart lightbulbs much less color changing ones. Unless you're a 14-year-old girl doing tik-tok dances in your bedroom 🤷‍♂️

scrappy_Duncan,

I setup bookstack at my last job and personally loved it. But yeah, takes a lot to get everyone on board with something like that. I liked that you could export stuff out of it easily too. Bridges the gap if you need to email documentation.
