Daily traffic to the top two and servers over the last 28 days.

This is data analytics company Simliarweb. It has a small delay on web traffic - its data goes till June 11th, but that is updated daily, and I'll update picture as it does.

I am running out of infosec.* domains. Might be time to try something different for kbin

shellsharks,

@jerry some ideas…

  • .community
  • .forum
  • . news
  • .zone
  • infoseckb.in

Oh and you should get infosec.world as a place to link to and describe the various infosec.X properties.

Dear community. How come we use Mastodon and not Nostr? I find it a little odd because, technically speaking, Nostr is way more interesting, don't you agree? User experience is great on Mastodon (talking elk.zone) though - and the crowd is better (in my bubble anyway). What's your take on Mastodon v Nostr? Genuinely interested in your opinions

shellsharks,

@marcchehab No one really talks about other than to lambast it as a place crypto bros hang out (and for us infosec folk that unfortunately doesn’t mean cryptography bros 😜). Whether that’s true or not I don’t know. I got on Nostr but didn’t spend much time trying to network (yet). There was a big push to Mastodon and fortunately @jerry had a welcoming, well-run spot perfect for the infosec community diaspora to land. So I give partial credit to the fact that Mastodon was more “talked about” / marketed by tech media and Jerry’s excellent stewardship.

I decided I’m going to start selling my beach feet pics to pay the I.E server bills

shellsharks,

@jerry go with feet.infosec instead 😜

Possibly controversial, but:
Mona app >> ivory >> all the others

shellsharks,

@jerry what unique features for you like about Mona? Anything in particular that puts it above Ivory for you? I downloaded Mona for a min to see but simply liked Ivory’s UX more so went back to it.

@ivory@tapbots.social avatar

Ivory for Mac will be released tomorrow!

We’ve decided to keep things simple as far as subscriptions go. If you paid for “Premier”, you’ll automatically get access to the Mac app as we have changed “Premier” to “Universal”.

If you paid for “Pro”, you’ll get the same access to “iOS + iPadOS”.

If you upgrade to “Universal”, your sub date will reset and you’ll be refunded the remainder of your Pro subscription.

shellsharks,

@ivory Wish Ivory was available for Monterey! 😭. I have the 2013 Mac Pro and sadly it’s starting to miss out on more and more (including Ventura). Guess I have more motivation to upgrade now…

shellsharks, to bluesky

Alright, I'm over on now as @shellsharks.com (https://bsky.app/profile/shellsharks.com).

If interested, Star (if your bsky handle is in your bio) or reply so I can follow you over there!

A bit of stuff is brewing over there but not much. I know bsky will improve with time but so far the features and community on Mastodon and specifically here on infosec.exchange are vastly better than what bsky offers. The make-your-domain-your-bsky-handle is the one fun novelty thing I've encountered so far =).

For me, I'll go where the general infosec community goes. I came over in full during one of the mass Twitter migrations and have been happy with the infosec discourse here so far. If another shift happens I may follow but I get the sense that unless something awful happens here this is probably a more permanent home for most (especially given how well @jerry has been running things).

shellsharks,

@jerry bluesky invite fever is unadulterated fomo. Truly not much to do once you're over there (again, for now). Honestly, me being able to drop 13k wc posts here is enough to get me to stay forever. Plus, I think Mastodon (and the Fediverse at large) has the "we've always been here and will continue to be here after bsky or w/e Twitter successor comes and goes" quality which is very appealing. Obviously "big tech" has taken notice too as projects for federation have already begun (e.g. "Barcelona").

mttaggart, to random

Well, my life has gotten complicated enough that I need to take personal task management much more seriously. I like Kanban, but would rather not use Trello. What's out there that people like?

shellsharks,

@mttaggart I like Todoist which has both a tradition list-based to-do view and also a somewhat customizable Kanban/board view.

rmogull, to random

I have a friend who has very little tech background but wants to start a career in security without going bankrupt on training.

Could use advice on where to start him?

I can set him up with my cloud security stuff but he needs more fundamentals first.

shellsharks,

@rmogull I have a piece on “getting into infosec” they may find useful https://shellsharks.com/getting-into-information-security.

jerry, to random

If there are any adventurous souls left after our calckey expedition yesterday, I have lemmy running at https://infosec.pub. Lemmy is like reddit. One thing I didn't realize is that it is activitypub based, but it looks like the interactions with other services like mastodon is somewhat limited. Which makes sense, given what it is. Docs are here: https://join-lemmy.org/docs/en/users/01-getting-started.html

shellsharks,

@jerry Do you have a place where you are centrally documenting all of the various Fediverse infosec.*** properties? Also, where did wiki.infosec.exchange go? I must’ve missed an announcement. Thanks for everything you do! I’m going to need to up my annual liberapay contribution here soon… 😁

shellsharks, to infosec

Loving the (and beyond) community on Mastadon so far, the engagement has been great. Have come across a lot of new security folks sharing their research and blogs which is awesome. I’ve been keeping a (huge) list of infosec blogs here - https://shellsharks.com/infosec-blogs - for those who like me, love RSS :-). If you have a and want to share and have it added, please reply!
