While it can be entertaining to speak with chatgpt or AI, to see what it does... I do not want it to replace search engines or to use it to find serious or important topics. It is not an expert.

I think it is great when people think the fediverse is dead. More people that think the criteria of success is growth in accounts should think we're dead. We don't need that mindset here.

"I recall the 1980s and the major Japanese investment into North America. Some expressed concern that the Japanese would take over our culture. Fast forward to late 2023 and we welcome as much Japanese content as possible! The kicker: the family values of current Japanese content make us nostalgic for our own lost values."

Damn...

Watching women behave like feminine women in classic films and still be pretty kick arse at times is a lot more refreshing than what we get with modern interpretations where they aren't allowed to emote because they have to be stoic and like girlbosses. It just seems so different. Why can't we go back to this?

How do you counter misinformation?

Focus on making the mainstream media trustworthy by them demonstrating that they can be trusted, and make it really easy to access the truth and facts, add context to it. Just talk to people, really. Word of mouth is powerful. People want to learn new things where they are.

It's not rocket science, unless you are trying to pass propaganda off as the truth.

Happy New Year, Fedi!

May the New Year bring good blessings and tidings to you and yours. May you reach your set goals for the year, may it bring more happy memories for you to remember and share. May you reach another life goal. May you get to spend more time with family and friends, and eat good food and drink good drinks. May you get to enjoy good music, a good book or a good film/show. Whatever your pastime is. That you can enjoy more of your culture, traditions and customs. Perhaps experience another that interests you.

May you get to experience more opportunities that the world has to offer, from the beauty in nature and the beauty that man is capable of. May you get to be creative or master a craft that takes your fancy. There is nothing quite like doing something with your hands or mind. Knowing that you are capable, that you can do something.

All the best for the New Year ahead.

Upnor Castle is an Elizabethan artillery fort located on the west bank of the River Medway in Kent.

The fort was intended to protect both the dockyard and ships of the Royal Navy anchored in the Medway. It was constructed between 1559 and 1567 on the orders of Elizabeth I, during a period of tension with Spain and other European powers. The castle consists of a two-storeyed main building protected by a curtain wall and towers, with a triangular gun platform projecting into the river. It was garrisoned by about 80 men with a peak armament of around 20 cannon of various calibres.

What fun have you manufactured recently exactly? Your products are shit right now. Did you fire all the fun people?

It's not so weird when you realise that people generally have different preferences and tolerance for things. There are things you don't necessarily want to mention in front of the opposite sex. There are things the opposite sex may do which doesn't interest you or that might annoy you. I do think that men need other men to help their development, likewise with women. Things like the scouts were great for this. Forcing men and women to mix all the time hasn't been so great, there needs to be some balance to this.

Understandable. It's easier for me to be alone than to deal with these group dynamics and preferences. I do think there are benefits to it though.

Same reason that women do this, because men can be men around other men in a way that they usually aren't when a woman is around. They can generally make more offensive jokes without a woman getting offended, they can take more risks without worrying as much. Bring a woman into this and the dynamic changes, especially if romance is involved. Same when it comes to women being able to be women around other women, there are some things they wouldn't want to talk about or do with a man around because it isn't polite and the group becomes more uncomfortable.

Not sure that a lot of people are getting the benefits from it at this point. A lot of people are dysfunctional. Maybe living in a low trust society doesn't help, living around people who are basically strangers to us. Even family often end up being strangers now.

I'm tired of being told that I have to cater to the unreasonable people and bullies out there.

Those people need to learn some stoicism so they don't get offended all the time or think of themselves as victims because they feel offended.

Or even just the concept that you consider the other persons experiences and knowledge, and then you can say "It seemed so to him/her." (Epictetus) when you hear their opinions. Even when you think someone is wrong. Empathy is an important skill and it goes both ways.

sim,

@grillchen @Moon It is easier to lash out at other people than to look inwards. It is easier to hate yourself than to forgive yourself for your failures. The same can be said for others. Although we tend to be more charitable to other people than ourselves because we don't know all of their past or thoughts. We hold ourselves to a higher standard.

It is also easier to give your attention to the bad news out there that remains a problem than to be grateful for the good news in life and appreciate that.
