All tourist traps are awful IMO, but there are ways to avoid them at their worst. It's amazing how effective getting up early is; most travellers would rather deal with crowds than do that.

A bit of a strange day for me, carpentry wise. I finished framing the floor for the addition and hit pause. I went in to see what I’d take on and was suddenly overwhelmed by it all. Realizing there’s still so much to do, and realizing it’ll be worse come sealift when so much arrives and I’ll be racing winter. And overcome with the feeling I’m just not good enough.

I am, and this will pass. But two days in and I just gave up on the day.

@MarkAsser @luciedigitalni You're onto something there Mark. I'm working my rear end off for a progressive, experienced woman in my electorate, who chose not to go with IFC and opt for independence with name recognition instead. So glad she did!

In a cafe which insists on closing at 3pm even though there are always a fair few customers here then. IMO Aussie cafes need to dare to stay open later. I bet they'd get a lot of business straight after work, say 5-7pm.

@smitjo @HardBeingGreen Here in Canberra (and probably elsewhere) it's very hard to downsize without moving way out into the burbs, partly because of cost, but also because any new infill housing is all 2- storeys. Many retired friends have therefore either been forced to stay in their big houses, move far away, or build a tiny single level dual occ on their own property. This obsession our govt has with cramming 2 storeys onto tiny blocks (rates $$) is not helping old ppl downsize.
