Once the new footbridge is open in Zwolle, it will be a magnificent location to watch the performance of “Knoop Zwolle”. It is a very dense program where every half hour 10 trains are connecting to each other and the reason why Zwolle is the starting point of the Dutch train timetable.

Delft, half eight in the morning. Someone chartered a boat and now there is a giant bicycle traffic jam because the only bridge over the Schie had to open.

@partim I love that bicycle highway, and it shows why it is needed there :blobcatgiggle:

Some people go to public screenings of football games

When in Maastricht I’m off to a public screening of a debate with Ursula von der Leyen 🙂

@jon The NOS visited the debate festival yesterday. Turns out you missed André Rieu 😅

Trying to help a friend get from Madrid to Paris 8 June. And I want to 😭

€122 for the best timed TGV train to Paris €97 is the cheapest
Cheapest flights from €43
Other flights €54 - €74

smveerman,
@smveerman@zug.network avatar

@jon And probably the € 4000 in fees one has to pay to run one train on the Perpignan - Figueres high speed line.

For a couple of months now, I have been planning a new hiking series, but I couldn’t decide where to start. I did know where I wanted to finish, so time do things a little different: I do it in reverse and decide as I’m going where to finish.

And so, it is my great pleasure to welcome you to , starting at the magnificent station of Lille-Flandres. The next station is going to be Lezennes.

smveerman,
@smveerman@zug.network avatar

One kilometer into the hike I’m crossing the tracks coming from Paris, Valenciennes and Tournai. A train from Belgium is arriving in Lille, with a TGV waiting after it to also enter the station

A T.G.V. Duplex on top of the high speed line waiting to be allowed into Lille.

smveerman,

After 3,3 km from Lille-Flandres, arrived at the first station, Lezennes. I do a detour via Mont-de-Terre before going to Hellemmes station .

smveerman,
@smveerman@zug.network avatar

@jon Yes, both platforms are used, mostly by MS/AM96 trains from SNCB, who by themselves already have a steep entrance.

Germany following the UK and banning eScooters in trains

If your eScooters are exploding your problem is with unsafe imports FIX THAT, don't ban people transporting them!

smveerman,
@smveerman@zug.network avatar

@jon yeah… almost all e-scooters are banned in the Netherlands because they need a license plate by law but there isn’t a procedure to get one 🫠

Time for another train adventure. Heading south from Zittau into Czechia. But first we have to cross a wee bit of Poland – because they forgot to consider the railways when redrawing the borders after the war.

Saturday 20 April at 22:30 all NS trains will stop for three minutes to protest against violence against train staff. Last Saturday, a conductor was pushed off the stairs in the train and had multiple injuries.

At the end of 2024 or the beginning of 2025, Grand Est Mobilités will take over 16 TER 2N NG five car double deckers from Normandy, scheduled to replace the current three car double deckers on the Luxembourg - Metz - Nancy service that have overcrowding issues. Luxembourg is paying half of the 105 million euro costs to build a new maintenance facility near Metz for these trains.
