As early as October 9 top Israeli officials declared that they intended to block the delivery of food, water, and electricity, which is essential for purifying water and cooking. Defense Minister Yoav Gallant’s words have become infamous: “I have ordered a complete siege on the Gaza Strip. There will be no electricity, no food, no fuel, everything is closed. We are fighting human animals and we act accordingly.” The statement conveyed the view that has seemed to guide Israel’s approach throughout the conflict: that Gazans are collectively complicit for Hamas’s crimes on October 7.

This was my turning point as well, when it became completely obvious that the goal was the direct suffering and punishment of civilians collectively with government officials dehumanizing Palestinians openly. The repeated evacuations to “safe zones” that were then attacked just reinforced this, along with cutting off or murdering journalists to hide the genocide.

Yes, Hamas escalated the situation knowing the Israeli government would retaliate on this level, but that does not justify the IDF taking the bait.

John Mark Dougan, former marine and police officer, now living in Russia to evade criminal charges (sh.itjust.works)

Dougan, a former Marine and police officer, fled his home in Florida in 2016 to evade criminal charges related to a massive doxxing campaign he was accused of launching against public officials and was given asylum by the Russian government. Most recently, Dougan has posed as a journalist in Ukraine’s Donbas region, testifying...

It is unreasonable to dismiss his ethically based release of information because of more recent events. He ended up with Russia because other countries were not willing to grant asylum, and even though he is a stooge now because of that outcome it does not mean he was always a shithead.

The death panels existed then too, but they were the for profit insurance companies so Republicans were fine with them.

Instead Of Banning Books, Idaho Library Decides To Ban Kids In Response To New Law On ‘Inappropriate Books’ (www.techdirt.com)

Public libraries are supposed to be places for communities to gather and learn, with an important focus on being a place for kids to gain access to information. But thanks to a moral panic in the GOP about “indoctrination” in libraries, it seems that at least one library has decided to shut its door to children....

Republicans banning books hurts kids, with a long term plan of getting even worse.

This is a short term minor ‘hurt’ with a goal of avoiding that long term harm.

If the water is too deep to just wade out, there are these new inventions called boats that could be used!

@snooggums@midwest.social avatar

First, I have pulled someone who fell out of a canoe back in more than once. Also a loaded cooler once after someone tipped over.

Second, there are more boats than just canoes if you need the stability and the space to put harvest. A basic rowboat for example.

If you haven’t learned how to counterbalance in a boat it could be an issue.

It is extremely disappointing that the Biden administration continues to be complicit in genocide by not cutting off all military aid to Israel until they agree to and follow through with a ceasefire.

Wow, leaning really hard into both racism and misogyny at the same time! Southern pride!

For those that weren’t around at the time, this was like the jump from prop planes to jets. Such a large leap from what had come before.

Reading the resolution and FPS numbers it doesn’t seem that impressive, but doubling both FPS and pixels and adding a bunch of new things like reflections and water at the same time was just incredible.

That is an excellent comparison!

Netanyahu says deadly Israeli strike in Rafah was the result of a 'tragic mistake' (apnews.com)

TEL AVIV, Israel (AP) — Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Monday that a “tragic mistake” was made in an Israeli strike in the southern Gaza city of Rafah that set fire to a camp housing displaced Palestinians and, according to local officials, killed at least 45 people....

is war justified?
what is civilian to military kill ratio (basically to see if civilians are killed without care)
what are the goals of the war, what are post war plans

For the first question, I do not know how anyone with straight face can say that the war is not justified when a neighbor attacks you and purposely and barbarously kills 1300 people and takes about 200 hostages.

For those of us with calendars that go back past October 7th the question about justification is a lot more complicated. Don’t forget that Israel has killed more than 10x as many women and children than were killed on October 7th, and have destroyed medical support and denied food and housing to the CIVILIAN population of Gaza as retribution. Also, Israel continues to colonize Palestine violently both as the government and as settler groups supported by the Israeli government.

If you want to talk retribution, guess what led to October 7th? Both sides are doing horrible shit, but one side has enough power to stop the current ongoing atrocity against the other side’s civilian population and that side it Israel. If they stopped attacking civilians in the ‘safe zones’ and actually let aid and food then I might have some sympathy for them.

For the second quested, it is urban warfare, and if anyone cares to check, the ratio of 10 to 1 (civilian to military) is quite typical. In this war, Israel achieves ratio of better than 2 to 1, which says to me that IDF is really careful not to kill civilians unnecessarily.

Yeah, so careful they murdered a Reuters journalist across the border in Lebanon with a tank.

Israel’s atrocity is mass murdering civilians. Calling for the same as a response is horrible.

They need to step up the game on pointing out he is on trial right now and then go all in if he is convicted. If they have been saying it already, then they need to figure out how to say it in a way that gets on the news.

Trump being worse deosn’t mean we can’t criticize Biden right now as the sitting president. I have been very supportive of the need to vote for Biden over Trump, but the Democrats need to stop doubling down on denying the atrocities in Gaza already.

Like they aren’t even using nuance or anything at this point. Threateninng the ICC is absolutely ridiculous.
