Child poverty in the United States just more than doubled. You can thank Joe Manchin. (www.motherjones.com)

The United States’ poverty rate experienced its largest one-year jump on record last year, with the rate among children more than doubling from 2021’s historic low of 5.2 percent to 12.4 percent according to new numbers from the US Census Bureau out today. They’re the latest data to reflect the devastating effects...

So the same logic permitting enhanced interrogation in Guantanamo Bay, that being unconstitutional is fine as long as it’s not on US soil?

The deal includes […] and protections for the use of artificial intelligence in the writing process. Per the guild’s agreement:

  • AI can’t write or rewrite literary material, and AI-generated material will not be considered source material under the MBA, meaning that AI-generated material can’t be used to undermine a writer’s credit or separated rights.
  • A writer can choose to use AI when performing writing services, if the company consents and provided that the writer follows applicable company policies, but the company can’t require the writer to use AI software (e.g., ChatGPT) when performing writing services.
  • The Company must disclose to the writer if any materials given to the writer have been generated by AI or incorporate AI-generated material.
  • The WGA reserves the right to assert that exploitation of writers’ material to train AI is prohibited by MBA or other law.

This comes after countless funny and unsuccessful attempts to scab using ChatGPT

Why Do Companies Not Use Existing 2FA Standards?

This is something I am seeing more and more of. As companies start to either offer or require 2FA for accounts, they don’t follow the common standards or even offer any sort of options. One thing that drives me nuts is when they don’t offer TOTP as an option. It seems like many companies either use text messages to send a...

The sole mod of MeanwhileOnGrad posted [Vote] Should we defederate hexbear? (to SJW’s meta community). To save face, they claim to be voting Nay:

I like messing with hexbear users, they have no idea how anything works, they can’t downvote, they’re easy to ban, and they are so damn fun to troll. Buuut they are also very annoying, so I can totally understand the yes.

But obviously that’s a thin facade, they try to call out a SJW user for not being explicitly anti-Hexbear, and after all they posted a defederation vote even though an admin didn’t want to vote yet.

I’d be a little surprised if it isn’t some bug. We’re listed on Feddit’s Lemmymap, even though feddit.de pre-emptively defederated from us.

Hexbear also wasn’t listed on join-lemmy.org/instances until Nutomic told us that his crawler was hitting a syntax error when trying to parse Hexbear’s version, 0.18.3.hexbear.2 at the time.
