Password complexity has increased in the last decade or so and so has support for managing and entering them. A lot of websites have an "unhide" button, for instance, and some sort of complexity meter.

But not everything.

I just changed one of my corporate passwords on a browser-hosted RDP screen. So, Windows, basically. The passwords are now so long and complex the lack of an unhide button was a real problem! Took me 4 tries to change it (it was a few days from expiring, so I had to).

Where can I buy Scotchguard? The Woollies I went into this afternoon didn't have it. Also wondering if I even should use it on my new Vans sneakers.

I thinking that the root cause of the current war Israel is waging is that they don't regard Palestinians as human on the same level as themselves. This is probably a problem all over the world, TBQH.

Half-watched the SBS news item about Bruce Lehrmann. He seems to be in a long way over his head. The phrase "play stupid games, win stupid prizes" comes to mind.

Why would you list something on Facebook Marketplace and then never respond to messages. I don't get it.

Interesting article about what we make sports clothing out of. And why some are turning back the clock. https://open.substack.com/pub/tiffaniedarke/p/how-toxic-is-your-sportswear?utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web

Very annoyed. Suddenly Instagram is giving me ads for online glasses. How do they know that? There is some cross-domain cookie and data shenanigans that should not be happening, is how!

I've now turned off all third-party cookies* and deleted all those for the glasses websites I've been exploring. Also did the same for Instagram itself and re-logged in.

This was one of the most blatant data sharing events I've seen in decades - really! And it's probably fucking Instagram doing it.

  • Apparently some websites might break. Sucks to be them.

Random endorsement of the day: Safix cleaning pads are awesome. They clean organic stuff off surfaces and leave the surface alone. I just cleaned my kitchen cupboard doors for the first time in too long and it was so easy.

I've been using the for years after I got tired of modgy cloths that never dried and were better at moving water around than cleaning plates. They're like scouring pads but made out of coconut fibres. Whilst this means they're biodegradable, it also means you can leave the pad on the sink and it will dry.

Warm weather on a Sunday morning is great for drying the washing, but in Sydney that usually means humidity and that slows me down.

So YouTuber and streamer Finnster has come out as . A lot of people saw this coming, unsurprisingly.

But he's also done something else profound: he's normalising the journey of cross-dressing to femboy to transgender. Because that's very similar to my journey. And I think a lot of people don't grasp that that's also an entirely valid path to take.

Eggs can crack in all different ways at all different times for all different reasons.

I don't think I've done an post. Or if I did, I forgot to pin it..

My profile is a start but I came over from the birdsite in one of the first migrations, basically following most of my friend network.

I've been a pagan for a little while,
a photographer for a while longer, a programmer for a long time, a musician of one sort or another for even longer, a writer of some shade or other for just as long. And I recently discovered I'm transgender and have been all my life.

My taste in music is mostly Kpop but also a touch of electronica and a few other odds-and-sods, which I also make. Sometimes you'll see my art here, too.

Oh, and I've lost count of how many programming languages I've used over the decades.

I have a delivery that the supplier tells me is waiting in my local post office. But. I have no notice from AusPost about its existence, and I know they never tried to deliver it because not only was I home all day, but I got something else delivered, too! So wierd.

In my re-read, I finished Thud the other day. Okay, well, more like a week ago.

Not a big fan of this novel. Terry has clearly moved on from spoofing to serious drama but in a world where technological progress is both rapid and has a persistent kind of we-don't-call-it-magic magic that drives things. Thus the imps in cameras and Vimes' personal organiser and creatures like golems and vampires.

Koom Valley could've remained a Noodle Incident and I'm sure a lot of Discworld fans would've accepted that. That was probably my disappointment with the novel the first time I read it. This time, though, I'm not so sure. Having it all sorted out because of Vimes is actually pretty much in character for Sir Samuel. The novel lampshades this a couple of different ways. People who know of Sam know he's like this. Some of them even figure out how to manipulate him, too. which is something Sam is very aware happens.

It's been said elsewhere that all the dwarf tunnels under Ankh-Morpork were partly a setup for creating an underground rail system in the city. We see a hint of that possibility in Unseen Academicals with mentions of public transport. But a subway system did not eventuate in a novel before Terry passed away.

I'm probably going to slow down once more now that I'm on the home stretch. Most of the novels in this last tranche I have only read once, mostly because of how recent they are plus that I'm no longer a prolific reader and haven't been for at least a decade. And I have other things to read, too.
