I just realized that I've been using adblock so consistently, for so long, that I have basically no idea what the average person's experience of the internet is like.
Every now and then I use someone else's device that isn't so locked down. And I'm floored by how useless and annoying the internet is. IDK how people do this.
I could either use a reality check or some encouragement to move forward.
I have been actively degoogling, defacebooking, weaning myself off of Big Tech for a couple of years and still going. My wife and kids, and basically anyone I know IRL, are head deep in Google, Apple, Facebook, and all the others. They are avid Meta users, backup all their photos to Google, and just don't care one bit about their privacy & security, nor mine.
So, what are those like me to do? By default, I have no privacy or security because of those around me. I'm starting to ask myself "what's the point?"
I wear a helmet when I ride my bicycle. Not because I think they’re particularly important, but because I realized not wearing one is a good way to get victim blamed.
In years of commuting, in Seattle, PDX, and Brooklyn, I’ve only fallen off my bike once (I don’t clip in). Sooo many people asked me “were you wearing a helmet?” Nobody asked me if I actually hit my head (I didn’t).
So I went out and bought a helmet.
Now I mostly wear it because the visor is good for the sun 😎

I used to be able to bike up hills faster. Age takes its toll, however.
Typically, getting home from work is an elevation gain, so i'll be going uphill. not gonna walk too much
Anyone by chance know how accessible things are right now in the northern cascades? Having a hard time finding info online and not much to go off of on AllTrails atm
@alissaazar
frankly, the weather has been pretty changeable lately. that makes it dicey for some locations, even on day trips. at least one died recently somewhere around the enchantment lakes.
Trying to work on this article but “habibi bleez be my shawarma” is stuck in my head and I’ve accidentally typed the words “habibi” and “shawarma” like 4 times now. And now I just really want shawarma.
A collection of founding chambers for young queens ready for the summer. Formicaria are reuse able if you get quality products. I just like the textures and shapes of these little spaces designed to have perfect light and humidity levels. Wood, ytong, plastic, glass— so many materials.
What do you call that stupid feature on a smart phone camera where it decides which photo you actually meant to take when you take a picture of something in motion?
