I haven't always agreed with the NDP these past few years, BUT:

(Yesterday)

Mr. Jagmeet Singh (Burnaby South, ):

Mr. Speaker, the chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court is seeking arrest warrants against five senior Hamas and Israeli leaders. This is a step toward justice for Palestinians and Israeli victims of war crimes.

The Liberals promised to support the ICC when they voted for our motion in March, so will the Prime Minister and the Liberal government state clearly that Canada supports the ICC's work to hold all those responsible for crimes accountable?

@rorystarr He has!! I was really proud of him yesterday

@stephanie it's almost like something a democratic socialist party should say. One might confuse them as representative of their own values if this keeps up.

When we said "never again", we apparently meant "never again unless the victims aren't white and the people committing the genocide have oil".

Perfect summer day!

Visit is gone and we survived. We managed to only talk about politics once and my mom stopped us pretty quickly lol

Back to calm and quiet

We successfully paid for my parents without having my dad complain ๐Ÿ˜Ž

driusan,

did you drug him so he was unconscious first?

@stephanie โ€œexcuse me, I need the bathroomโ€. (Pulls out credit card when out of view of argumentative parents). Been there myself.

It's so hot in whyyyy.

Does anyone know of a nice, shaded and easy trail we could do this afternoon?

ottaross,
@ottaross@mastodon.social avatar

@stephanie I like the Shirley's Bay trail and the Lime Kiln trail, both in the west end though. They have some nice shaded stretches.

WTL,
@WTL@mastodon.social avatar

@stephanie A lot of the paths/trails in the Gatineau hills are reasonably shady (free from sun, VS sketchy).

Hmm I'm actually slightly worried about my dad. He has started forgetting a lot of stuff, and my mom told me today that he sometimes "invent" memories.

He actually told her not long ago that "they traveled a lot with us kids"......

We were pretty poor when I was a kid, there was definitely not a lot of traveling ๐Ÿคจ

He wasn't the best dad, he definitely wasn't the best husband... But my mom telling me he's not "aging gracefully" is not good. She deserves the world.

human3500,
@human3500@ottawa.place avatar

@stephanie There are treatments, but he will need to want to participate for a proper diagnosis.

If he won't go to see a specialist, what he eats is important as is sleeping and exercise (even walking). Moving blood through his brain should help.

Good luck down this road.

stephanie,
@stephanie@ottawa.place avatar

Well apparently his fall on skates in the fall scared him enough that he put his name on a list to get a doctor (finally, at 68!!) and might be willing to get blood work and all. So that's at least positive.

(He thought it would take him half the time the doctor told him to get better and it ended up taking much longer because, as we knew would happen, he did too much too quickly)

There is no good faith arguing with a boomer whose sole concern is spent money.. And all change is met with "I'm too old now" and "I'll be dead soon" come oooooon lol

Me texting my mom "Where are you at now?"

My mom: "We're almost at Mirabel, looooots of trafic".

If only we could save time and money taking a high speed train from Quรฉbec City to Ottawa, heh. If only.

stephanie,
@stephanie@ottawa.place avatar

To be fair, it has now taken them 6 hours to get here with stopping for lunch and breaks... Maybe the train wouldn't be such a bad idea for them ๐Ÿ˜…

WTL,

@stephanie It's certainly a much nicer way to travel.

So my whole (old) team is forced to do mandatory overtime this weekend because a client decided that, after three rounds of modifications, their document needed to be delivered two days before the deadline. For reasons.

Every single long weekend, I swear.

I do not miss this, even with the more intense days at the new position.

(My coworker just sent me the "What if I told you, your failure to plan is not my emergency" meme ๐Ÿ˜† )

WTL,
@WTL@mastodon.social avatar

@stephanie The concept of mandatory overtime is bonkers. How about, no? <sighs>

Ah yes, good seeing you too, neighbour.

"What are you doing back there?! It was so loud. It's fine, but I work from home, and all day long..." "Are you digging for a pool or something?!?"

It took less than three hours, split in two periods. We also work from home, thank you.

"And that tree you took down, it was such a huge and beautiful tree, I would have relocated it"

We know, but it was taking half of our yard, and no you can't dig that up, especially on property lines.

Anyway, back to hermitting

There are starlings, a cardinal and robins in our tiny yard (the excavated dirt is very popular).

Hmm... Is that normal? Huge raccoon is broad daylight at our neighbour's ๐Ÿ˜ณ

leroy,
@leroy@indiehackers.social avatar

@stephanie I have seen families migrate during the day. Unsure if itโ€™s because their territory was disrupted (construction?) or potentially a rival raccoon.

Unfortunately the babies are vulnerable during the day โ˜น๏ธ

mariellequinton,
@mariellequinton@ottawa.place avatar

@stephanie You do see them out occasionally during the day, often someone is fiddling in their shed or something and disturbs them. Sometimes, especially with babies, they have to move nests or something. When you do see them, you wonder how such chonky animals manage to hide from us so well!
