Politics on Ice.

I don't make the news, I just report it. ;-)

I love the unusual texture of the ice here and am disheartented by the fact that folks feel the need to publicly fly their political flag, even while ice fishing.

Wouldn't it be nice if we could all go out on the ice together and just get along.

@kreynen - I find this message a bit more than crass. It's not targeted at Biden himself. It's a big FU to anyone that holds values that Biden represents.

It's an intentionally destructive message that doesn't improve the situation for anyone, except making the flag owner feel powerful. There are plenty of folks on all sides of the political spectrum that embrace this kind of destructive messaging.

I'm tried of Trump flags, but I prefer them to this, for the reasons you specify.

I keep hearing about what a warm and welcoming place the Fediverse is, until a developer announces or even suggests a feature/tool that touches on one of the sacred beliefs, of a group of Fediverse users, that just aren't real.

The hostile and aggressive responses will not block these changes from happening, because anyone can implement these tools at anytime.

They will discourage anyone from being transparent about them, which does not make anyone safer.

Sometimes Drones just give you the mobility to get the right angle or position. I like this image, because of it helps demonstrate the power and intensity of the ice on a lake of this size.

Fediverse! I’ve been building a bridge to Bluesky, and they’re turning on federation soon, which means my bridge will be available soon too. You’ll be able to follow people on Bluesky from here in the fediverse, and vice versa.

Bluesky is a broad network with lots of worthwhile people and conversations! I hope you’ll give it a chance. Only fully public content is bridged, not followers-only or otherwise private posts or profiles. Still, if you want to opt out, I understand. Feel free to DM me at @snarfed (different account than this one), email me, file a GitHub issue, or put #nobridge in your profile bio.

A number of us have thought about this for a while now, we’re committed to making it work well for everyone, and we’re very open to feedback. Thanks for listening. Feel free to share broadly.

Thanks for your work on this valuable feature for the Fediverse AND for your transparency and willingness to listen to the feedback of the community.

Please, don't let the loudest and most hostile voices discourage you.

Clearly, we all need to do better at communicating how the Fediverse works and setting realistic expectations about privacy on this network.

Taken about two weeks ago over Bay Lake. I just like the way the light catches the trees along the shore and bits of the sunset visible on the horizen.

Away from my desktop for a few days, so unlikely to post any new drone photos until I get home where I can manage and process them. But, hopefully I'll be able to take some new photos during this time.

If you haven't seen the Strandbeasts, check them out. I saw one in person about 10 years ago, it seems that they have taken to the air since then (in this fairly recent video).

"Theo Jansen is engaged in creating new forms of life: the so called strandbeests. Skeletons made from yellow plastic tube (Dutch electricity pipe) are able to walk and get their energy from the wind."

It's Hard Fork Friday! This week, Bluesky CEO Jay Graber on our decentralized future. Plus, how Adobe's failed acquisition of Figma shook up Silicon Valley ➡️ https://www.nytimes.com/2024/02/09/podcasts/hard-fork-bluesky-figma.html

I'll have to listen to that interview again, but it seems as if you did a 20 minute interview talking about decentralized social media without specifically mentioning Mastodon or the Fediverse.

Would have loved to hear some discussion about why they rolled their own protocol and what they might have learned from the Fediverse, if anything?

I was very interested in this interview and really liked parts of it. But, in my opinion, there were some missed opportunities there.

A friend just sent me a video of a really awesome motocycle rider doing crazy tricks.

It reminded me how much I love Danny MacAskill's videos better, because he doesn't have a motor on his bike.

I just loved how the barn jumped out of the landscape at me.

I watched a couple of your videos and I'm both a bit dizzy and really jealous for your FPV drone. I'd like to give that a try sometime.

I really liked this video a lot. Very well made and reminds me of some of the cool things that you can do with FPV.

Don't be fooled. There are plenty of snarky people on Mastodon as well.

But, I think we have better tools for filtering or blocking them.

At a minimum, I have become better at using these tools.

I passed my Remote Pilot Certificate test today for flying Drones under 55 lbs.

Today's photo was taken yesterday near the south end of Lake Mille Lacs.

stpaultim,
@stpaultim@fosstodon.org avatar

@doachs

I've head this before, but as of yet I'm not aware of any freedoms that I will lose as a part 107 pilot.

In fact, it's my understanding that if I'm out flying recreationally I can fly a drone without using my Part 107 certification. For example: flying a drone under 250grams for purely recreational purposes, without registing the drone.

I hope I'm not misunderstanding anything.

Tekchip, to RadioControl
@Tekchip@mastodon.social avatar

Passed the Part 107 Drone Pilot test with an 82%. Now the FAA has something to take away when I do dumb things! :KEKW:

stpaultim,
@stpaultim@fosstodon.org avatar

@Tekchip

Me too. I also took the test today.

I guess I beat you, I got an 85%.

It was a bit more difficult that I expected, but I took the full two hours, double checked my work, and seem to have done ok.

Congratulations!

Is this one over processed?

Beautiful sunset tonight. Taken with drone, but from a very low angle.

I've had a couple of good drone days this weekend.

stpaultim,
@stpaultim@fosstodon.org avatar

@aeronaute

After sitting with this image for a week or more, my personal judgement is that I was a bit heavy handed on the processing for my own taste.

The image was "liked" by a fair number of people and I still like it myself, as an experiment. But, I would pull back a bit if processing this again in the future.

stpaultim, to random
@stpaultim@fosstodon.org avatar

@aeronaute

Did I do something wrong?

The batteries for my take forever to charge. Documentation suggests that with 100W charger it should only take about an hour.

I assumed that the cable and charge pack that comes with the Fly More package would do it.

But, today I purchased a third party 100w power supply it seems to charge them much faster.

None of the reviews I watched mentioned this and the documentation seems vague on this (IMHO).

What was your experience?

stpaultim,
@stpaultim@fosstodon.org avatar

@tuban_muzuru @aeronaute

I watched two of your videos and sent you an email!
