As we work on new releases of Tenacity, we're also working on new releases of libmad and libid3tag. We plan to fix compatibility with older library versions so that existing applications don't have to be rebuilt.

We've already started with libid3tag here: https://codeberg.org/tenacityteam/libid3tag/pulls/8. A similar fix will be applied to libmad once this fix has been merged for libid3tag.

Have you thought about switching to an older version of Audacity (e.g., 3.0.2) due to networking features in newer versions?

Why not try Tenacity? It features all the things you love from Audacity 3.0.2 plus the non-destructive editing features from Audacity 3.1, all without networking! And don't forget our own specific features like Matroska label editing! 😄

@KatS Good point! We like to showcase what we do and hope others like it too! 😄

It's now official: the screenshot tool has been removed in nightly versions and will no longer be present in 1.4.

Here's a good issue for anyone interested: https://codeberg.org/tenacityteam/tenacity/issues/278

Looks like some distros have already adopted our version of libid3tag (we see you, @fedora)

Awesome! However, to hopefully ease compatibility with switching from 0.15.1b, we're looking at fixing SONAME versioning. We're looking at setting this back to 0 to preserve compatibility.

See https://codeberg.org/tenacityteam/libid3tag/issues/5 for more details. We appreciate feedback on the matter.

@tenacity I just installed tenacity, but there's only 2 effects: parametric equalizer and spectral edition, and that's all. Why are they so few ? How to install/activate more ?

tenacity,
@tenacity@fosstodon.org avatar

@stemy Did you use the Flatpak? You might want to try deleting pluginregistry.cfg and pluginsettings.cfg under ~/.var/app/org.tenacotyaudio.Tenacity/config if you use the Flatpak.

We're investigating this issue right now. Hopefully we can find a fix soon.

We haven't seen this in a long time...

I'm a little slow on getting to this, but removing (open source audio software), after being bought they put in various tracking & privacy intrusive things. Installing old ver. 3.0.2 instead to get the same thing from before the problem started & ditch the tracking.

@dec23k @mystixa @wjmalik Hello! Let us know if you need anything! We'll be right here :)

We got an issue about integrating patches from a special version of Audacity called Wavacity, which runs entirely in your web browser. https://codeberg.org/tenacityteam/tenacity/issues/271

Now try to imagine Wavacity...but Tenacity. Can you? We're taking a look at this because this would be certainly interesting to pull off...

We have finally fixed the playback cursor under Wayland! Our next release will still use XWayland (unless you launch Tenacity from the command line) because the toolbars don't undock properly, but this now means that basic editing is possible under Wayland.

tenacity,
@tenacity@fosstodon.org avatar

Note that you might see a slight performance hit since this change actually affects all platforms (including Windows!). It shouldn't be too noticeable (maybe slightly), but we're looking to fix this also.

Don't you love it when you draw overlays outside OnPaint using wxClientDC? /s

I just wanted to visualize a waveform, randomly searched for "audacity like online", not expecting much... and by god, they did it. The maniacs.

What codecs or containers do you want to see natively (i.e., without FFmpeg) supported in Tenacity? Comment so we know!

Note: please provide patent status if possible.

We're piling up fixes for our next release for 1.3.2. So far we have language fixes, build fixes, and small progress towards Wayland support (no play cursor support yet but it's waiting to be merged!), and other bug fixes. We're investigating two other issues with possible fixes too, including a Windows-specific memory issue that was just reported and choppy audio under MME. @gperson is working on them!

tenacity,
@tenacity@fosstodon.org avatar

@gperson Also, whenever we don't post here, we're busy at work fixing Tenacity.

Building Tenacity using lld (LLVM's linker) and clang on Pop!_OS 22.04 resulted in a huge speed up during linking! Wow! 🤯

We don't have numbers though, so you'll have to trust us here, but you'll find it impressive if you try it yourself!

We just discovered that our screenshot tool does not work under Wayland.

Unfortunately, we won't fix it because it's likely not possible to get it working under modern graphics APIs. Therefore, it will effectively go into maintenance mode. Only platforms it currently works on (Windows, macOS(?), and GTK 3 under X11) will be supported and get fixes.

Regardless, some of the tool's functionality is redundant. In 1.4, we'll remove options for capturing the full screen and full window.

tenacity,
@tenacity@fosstodon.org avatar

Yep. You read right. Capturing the whole screen, meaning your entire desktop.

Tenacity doesn't need to capture your entire screen. Modern OSes can already do this...

tenacity,
@tenacity@fosstodon.org avatar

@AmyIsCoolz The original (and current) plan was to actually move to Qt. However, regardless of the toolkit we choose, that'll have to wait because we don't have enough contributor power to do that 😢

wxGTK ported to GTK 4 would be awesome, but IIRC, most parts would need to be rewritten because the API has changed so much compared to GTK 3. See https://www.wxwidgets.org/blog/2021/01/wxwidgets-in-2020-and-beyond for more details. (Any input on this @VZ?)

tenacity,
@tenacity@fosstodon.org avatar

@AmyIsCoolz Yep! You can screenshot different parts of the window, including the toolbars and track panel!

tenacity,
@tenacity@fosstodon.org avatar

@AmyIsCoolz @VZ We know 😔

tenacity,
@tenacity@fosstodon.org avatar

@AmyIsCoolz @VZ Thanks! We're looking forward to welcoming even more contributors in the future! :D
