The people who say "Mastodon will not be sufficient" or "Mastodon will not get enough users" or "Mastodon will not survive" still have the "Twitter mindset" and that's a fact.

doesn't have to "gain traction" or be "popular" from that perspective.

Back in the 90s I didn't think most of the people of this planet will some day be using the Internet. I was happy being that nerd boy within the 1% of the world's population who actually use Internet. Similarly, I'm completely happy to be the tech oriented guy who uses Mastodon instead of Twitter.

I repeat: Mastodon does not have to be a "replacement". Mastodon does not "need" anything to "survive". It has already prospered.

It's as hard for me to imagine all the 20 000+ Mastodon servers with their users just suddenly cease to exist as Internet would suddenly disappear. That just will not happen.

@rolle exactly! Everyone of us would probably love see Mastodon "succeed" in everyday life. Many of us wish that news portals and popular persons say: "Follow me on Mastodon".

But we should remind ourselves that even if that does not happen (and it probably won't) - Mastodon is a success. As long as we, the users, are having fun, it's worth the whole thing. :)

I'm so happy that my tiny little Finnish instance federates with 88.14% of the other instances. It feels like my posts are seen by many and not hidden under algorithms like in the other places. I feel so free!

Leute, Leute,... Lasst doch die ARD erst mal im Fediverse ankommen 😩

Die haben sich bisher noch nicht einmal vorstellen können, bevor gestänkert wird. Wollen wir sie wirklich so empfangen? Wir sollten froh sein, dass sie das Experiment überhaupt wagen.

Stattdessen wird schon wieder gemault, weil sie auf die Google Cloud zurückgreifen. Aus meiner Sicht nicht schön, aber nachvollziehbar. Weil sie dafür schon Verträge haben. Weil sie das schon nutzen und sich damit auskennen.

Im Übrigen werden auch einige Mastodon Instanzen auf AWS gehostet. Es ist also "eh schon egal" - die Big Player spielen schon lange mit.

@halbeshendl klingt jetzt vielleicht abgedroschen, aber gesetzliche Anforderungen an die Sicherheit und Zertifizierungen legen den Chinesen auf ihrem eigenen Markt beträchtlich weniger Steine in den Weg, als es hier der Fall ist. Und der Anspruch an Qualität und Verarbeitung ist hier ein anderer. Die Märkte kann man meiner Meinung nach nur schwer direkt vergleichen.

Natürlich bin ich aber der Meinung, dass man sich Elektromobilität auch hier leisten können sollte. Da muss viel getan werden.

Ich trage - seitdem ich wieder öfter mit dem Rad unterwegs bin - auch immer Helm. Hier in Ingolstadt werden regelmäßig Radfahrer von der Straße geräumt und einige haben es nicht überlebt.

War auch lange Zeit zu faul dazu, aber meine Freundin hat mich dann überzeugt. Bin mit meinem Helm nun zufrieden und fühle mich sicherer. Sieht auch gar nicht so schlimm aus ;)... Wobei ich mich mit meiner quasi nicht existierenden Frisur natürlich leicht tue 😅

Außerdem ist Rad fahren - auch mit Helm - Hip und so und fügt sich gut in das Getue im Gründerzentrum :P

So weiß jeder gleich wie startup ich bin, mit dem Helm unter dem Arm.
