I see a bit of discourse going around at the moment reminding people that it was possible in the middle of the last century for a person to support a family, own a house, etc. on a singe wage earner's income via many different kinds of working class occupations.

I want to remind people that this was true primarily for WHITE working class families. The virulent racism which has infected the u.s. since its inception often excluded POC from access to those well paying jobs.

If this fucking place actually allowed one to easily port posts from one instance to another, moving from server A to server B wouldn't be that big a deal.

I'm going to be really fucking annoyed with loosing my posts twice and not even being here for a year.

There are things about the fediverse that really suck ass. This is a big one.

One of many things I absolutely love about cats, is sometimes a random cat in will wander into a human's house, and decide that they own both the human and the house.

And who could argue with them? You just have to go with it because it's such an honor, LOL.

I see TERFs now think driving trans women into the closet will somehow prevent cis men from harassing cis women in the subway. 🤔

Just as accusations of being gay were used to enforce gender conformity when I was growing up, now accusations of being transgender are being used for the same purpose in 2023.

It's a message with specific intent:

"If you don't follow sexist, gender conformist expectations, we will subject you to the same violence we subject trans people to."

Our suffering and oppression are used as threats to keep cis children and adults in line.

For what it's worth, I did nearly two decades of "out and about trans woman appealing to the hearts and minds of cis people."

Cis people tired me the fuck out and I eventually went partial stealth to get away from that kind of attention.

Someone else can pick up the baton. I'm done with that gig.

I wonder what it is like to be a young trans person in today's environment where the press and media is filled with regular negative messaging about trans people?

It wasn't all that easy in the 1970s and 80s when the media was negative but barely mentioned us.

It took several months of realizing that most everything society had taught me (about most topics) was likely bullshit, to finally let go of that negative messaging.

Not an easy task at any age but especially so as a child or teen.

Yeah, words and ceremonies of support are nice—thoughts and prayers without the god part.

Actually using your power to do something to intervene in the state sponsored genocide unfolding during your term in office would matter a hell of a lot more.

Instead, you've provided a "kinder, gentler" sports ban for trans kids.
