I love the Fediverse but TBH, there is way too much information here for my feeble human brain to handle, especially in chronological order.🤤

I need a digest or summary of what everyone is talking about beyond trending hashtags. Anyone know of cool projects in that niche? I see there have been some experimental Mastodon clients that do summaries/post relevance rankings with LLMs, but that seems like overkill. Might be an option, though!

@enobacon @madcodger Agreed, STAR is the better system I prefer, and I wish it had the same momentum behind it as RCV. Unfortunately, there seem to be a lot more people and money pushing for RCV.
Ultimately, as long as we choose a voting system other than plurality, the democratic process will (hopefully) improve.

Turns out I have lost like all the pictures of myself pre-T I once had, but I wanted to put together something of a transition timeline. One of the last pre-T pictures I had, from my undergrad graduation, and one about 10 years later. This is a shoutout to all my fellow transmascs who can't seem to grow facial hair or sing bass or develop Manly Muscles, HRT notwithstanding. At my most polished, I look like someone's geeky dad, and I'm proud of it.

Fun reminder for out there: If you don't setup a schedule job to clean out old content, your hosting bill is likely going to continue to grow over time espectially WRT object storage. 850GB in Google Storage isn't cheap.

@enobacon @Gargron It seems I wasn't precise enough when speaking before-- Mastodon has been AGPL licensed since 7 years ago. https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/blob/main/LICENSE If this SO post is to be believed, the "users who interact with the software over a network" clause of that license is meant to protect against this sort of unattributed use by a service provider. https://opensource.stackexchange.com/questions/11467/can-i-use-gpl-software-to-provide-a-commercial-cloud-service

Tonight I figured out how to use to get historical location information from the api of my @homeassistant instance, transform it, and send it via http to my @owntracks Recorder instance as a means of backfilling some missing data. Next up: creating an automation that does the same thing in realtime 🤖

Governments need to get off Twitter and at first glance this seems easy: set up a gov-centric Mastodon instance and convince governments to move.

Except it's far more complicated than that.

In evaluating if this was an endeavor I wanted to pursue (spoiler: no) I wrote up a list of things to consider for this to be done well. Hopefully it helps someone else in solving this problem.

I came on here to look at caturday posts (shhh it’s not breaking my fedi break! I must have my Shabbat caturday posts or else I will perish) and received a very lovely message from a German woman who makes cute near daily sketches of cats I love seeing and her kind message brightened my day and I felt the need to say so.

Humans can be awful and as such here too unfortunately, but sometimes people can be super sweet here in a way I never see on other social media. :ablobcatheartsqueeze:

@francehopper There's quite a few native Clematis that are good options. Ivy grows so out of control that there are areas of Forest Park where nothing but Ivy can grow; it chokes out all other life. 🙁
