Ahh... to be 18 yo, freshman in college, a local show, small venue, on Good Friday, four-twenty (though I didn't partake!), a beautiful spring evening, second row seats, my sixth show, my first Morning Dew. One of my favorite shows attended and immortalized as Dave's Picks 35. On this day 40 years ago...
Some more photos from 04/20/1984 at the Philadelphia Civic Center.
I have to give props to my daughter who hooked me up with use of her Adobe Creative Cloud license. The Photoshop Spot Healing Brush tool is absolute magic for cleaning dust and scratches from old negative scans.
A little over a quarter century ago, I was at a low point in my life. Unemployed, bad breakup, living in a run down apartment in a city I didn't like, and feeling very depressed.
With insomnia, alone on a futon, at some ungodly hour of the morning, a small clock radio provided one of my few comforts.
That night a song came on the radio that I have never forgotten. It was free jazz, avant garde, punk and brimming with energy. (1/x)
Any #vinyl folks go out for BF Record Store Day this morning? If so, how did it go and what did you pick up? Only a couple of things that caught my eye on the list this time, so I think I'm going to wait them out and see if the prices go down.
@tonymasiello@vinylrecords I wanted the Jazz Dispensary album but I’m traveling from VT (my folks) to Miami today, so I will likely have to pay over face unless I can find an leftover online tomorrow at plaidroom or wherever. I am also interested in the Garcia/Grisman joint.
Of the Grateful Dead's 58 top 40 albums, only 13 of them were released prior to the passing of Garcia. The other 45 are all archival releases and 40 of those are in the Dave's Pick's series.
The band have now placed an amazing 120 releases on the Billboard Top 200 album charts. Some surprising misses too... Fillmore West 1969: The Complete Recordings 10cd set pre-sold 10k units and did not chart.
So if you are curious, here they are, all 58 with their top chart position.
@mrcompletely agreed... wife and I have tix to see Oppenheimer in IMAX 70mm, but not until the end of the month. My daughter expressed an interest in the Barbie movie, but I think it has more to do with Billie Eillish contributing to the soundtrack.
