I had a thought as I was going to bed last night, I tweeted it but neglected to post it elsewhere:

> Bedtime podcast idea: "Murder, They Wrote" which alternates between discussing episodes of Murder, She Wrote and Castle.

Help, I've fallen down a rabbit hole trying to determine the first gen iPhone processing power in MIPS.

Finally getting to play Baldurs Gate 3. My first character is Damel, a kid who grew up on the streets and is a rogue. We'll see where this adventure takes him.

A blog post discussing the new , highlighting a few learnings, a few mistakes I made, and just generally being excited about the machine.

@lovestha Ha, no. That is a keyboard I had in the tech closet that I just grabbed for the system setup.

trick,

@lovestha Yeah. A friend put it to me that this is a piece of gear I use for hours everyday, I shouldn't feel bad for investing in it.

Alright, Marvin, my old Ubuntu desktop has been relocated to its new home in the house next to the router. Took a bit of finagling to get ethernet setup on it, since it had been living that wifi lifestyle, but we finally got it figured out.

The new computer is up and installing Windows. That means it's time I make a decision about the computer's name.

Its predecessor was Marvin for Marvin the Martian. Keeping with the Looney Tunes cast, this one shall be Michigan for Michigan J. Frog.

Today's plan: Watch Lord of the Rings and build my new computer.

trick,

@phpete that is the plan. We will see how it goes. It's been a while since I built a computer.

I'm having a Shazam moment. I would have sworn Ron Howard directed Forrest Gump (it was Zemeckis.)

First big snag on the new PC. I decided to start assembling it tonight despite the video card not arriving until Tuesday. As it turns out, good thing I did. The cooler I had ordered is too big for the case. I had ordered a 3-fan AIO cooler from Corsair and it's too big, I'll have to size down to their two-fan or look at another option altogether.

trick,
@trick@hachyderm.io avatar

@lovestha Yeah, that's also an option.

I wonder if there are any lower-level planes which are unknown or little known stars. Like a Cessna that is owned by a popular Hollywood stunt coordinator or propmaster and which is regularly utilized.

Alright my aficionado friends, IF someone were considering going for something better than what I use currently, I'm open to inputs.

What I think I want:

  1. Clicky keys
  2. Ergonomic split or curved design

Nice to have:

  1. Include a num pad

Let me know if you have thoughts

@petejohanson I am interested, but I also have no experience doing soldering. I'm leaning towards prebuilt for this reason, but haven't made a decision yet.

There is no word in English for the feeling you get when your brain has extra cycles and you desperately want to fill it with another project/performance/job, but you need to stop because those are the extra cycles you need in an emergency.

I'm daydreaming of a cheap gadget with an e-ink display which has a passive NFC sensor, and when activated it updates the display of the e-ink screen. Basically current tech for digital store price labels, but dirt cheap.

I want it for easily updating the labels on the drawers for my sorted Magic cards. Right now I use dry erase labels, which work fine. But it would be nicer looking for them to be e-ink displays.

trick,
@trick@hachyderm.io avatar

@vonnieda Yeah I came to the same belief. If radio could be same pricing as NFC then it makes sense, but all the casual uses I have make pricing the #1 requirement.

trick,
@trick@hachyderm.io avatar

@DrFerrous Yes, but even cheaper. I'm thinking like the $1-2 range.

Was discussing Burbank airport with my wife and she referred to it as John Wayne airport, which I corrected her as being Orange County. However, I couldn't remember who it was named for, my first thought was Don Rickles - but I knew that wasn't correct.

The correct answer is Bob Hope.

Close enough.

A Nixon tape captured an exchange between him and Kissinger:

Mr. Kissinger is heard telling Nixon in 1973 that helping Soviet Jews emigrate and thus escape oppression by a totalitarian regime —(a huge issue at the time) was “not an objective of American foreign policy.”

“And if they put Jews into gas chambers in the Soviet Union,” he added, “it is not an American concern. Maybe a humanitarian concern.”

Just discovered Pocketcasts also has the ability (for Plus accounts) for me to upload audio files of my own to use in the app and web app. So I can listen to an audiobook in the car and then on my work machine without issue.
