tristramg,
@tristramg@mamot.fr avatar

tristramg,
@tristramg@mamot.fr avatar

@jon hahaha :) j’imaginais que c’était quelque chose comme ça.

Je me demande que devient le rachat de loco2 (qui selon moi permettait d’avoir aussi les Sparpreise…)

Question for Parisian cyclists: can you recommend a decent store for bike parts in Paris? I need some city pedals and some mudguards

I know what I want, so don't need advice. I just need a shop with a decent selection, and hopefully also reasonable prices

Something that's not Decathlon, and also isn’t predominantly a workshop - but is a place with a good selection of parts

Ideas @corentin @tristramg @vincevlo ?

tristramg,

@jon @corentin @vincevlo sorry, no real advice here. I often had struggles with bikes shops for part "buy on Internet and bring it to us".
Maybe the Cyclable bike shop network

I have heard via a source that SNCF might no longer be selling TGV reservations for Interrail at ticket machines

This was pretty much the only semi reasonable way to get these reservations (and the only way to avoid an extra booking fee)

Might any of my followers in France who lives close to a station with a Grandes Lignes ticket machine be able to check this at some point? @tristramg @vincevlo @wolfgangcramer @clem

EDIT: SEE RESPONSES. Interrail reservations still work at machines for now! 🎉

@jon yes. But to such an extent it’s really frustrating. It ruining my mood with the beautiful sun raise ;)

I mean… if I have a carte avantage, they have my picture in the control machine. If I pay fullprice, why do they care?
I don’t think scalpers are such a big problem.

tristramg,
@tristramg@mamot.fr avatar

@jon do you have some figures about that, or is it just a guessing?

Then why don’t they just control every train and remove the barriers?

Sure, we are in times where one can hear populist bullshit “train is expensive because as a honnest personne you pay for the fraud”. But don’t make business decisions based on that…

And why won’t they accept the digital id issued by the government? Even a police control accepts any kind of ID.

Met @jiri for a beer in Berlin this afternoon, to talk about railways mainly.

There’s a gap in European rail for a nimble, well run, professional cross border day and night train company. Think WESTbahn, x10. The question is how to build such a thing…

Jiri and I didn’t find all the answers though…

What about taking the problem the other way round:
TGV M was bought at 30M€/each. It can handle all currents and many signalings.
The price difference is not that big compared to seven 200km/h carriages + loc, why not leapfrog? (even if it means running at 160km/h on old lines for 10 yers).

Make it only 2 beds cabins and the number of passengers per train should be quite ok.

Having an argument with a distant friend on Facebook about hydrogen trains

A FDP voter

"It costs too much to lease a multi-system electric locomotive for international traffic” he says. Which might be right.

Then 🥁

“So for these routes a hydrogen locomotive would be better!”

🤯🤬🫣

1️⃣ No-one has even BUILT a proper mainline H2 loco
2️⃣ How much that'd cost to build or run is unknown!
3️⃣ Fleets of multi-system Vectron ⚡️ locomotives to lease are growing

What is it with these people? FFS.

How do you even say “Takt" for a timetable in English?

With contributions from @amyisard @tristramg @PGLux @EnriqueAndres @partim @serac here on Mastodon yesterday

Maybe, I conclude, we should try to bring the concept of Takt into English, and promote a Europatakt?

@jon it’s funny that so much goes back to music (also the north-german trains Metronom).
And in french, a « cadence » in classical music means “the soloist plays at the rythm that pleases him” (and it can vary through the part). That fits to France 🙃

jon, to random
@jon@gruene.social avatar

If I said “Taktfahrplan" to pretty much anyone with more than a basic knowledge of public transport in Germany (or Switzerland or Austria) they'd know what I mean

Even the more developed idea “integraler Taktfahplan" has some public resonance - not least as Germany is developing its Deutschlandtakt

But “clock face scheduling" or "clock face timetable” or - more developed - an “integrated clock face timetable” are terms pretty much unknown in English I think…

Missing the point

Yes taxation rates matter. But France-Spain and France-Belgium trains are expensive to take because the capacity is too low

If you reduce ticket prices on those routes you WON’T TRANSPORT MORE PEOPLE. Just different people. As the trains are full anyway

So, Clement Beaune, how are you going to get more TGVs to Barcelona?

https://www.euronews.com/green/2023/08/10/france-is-raising-taxes-on-flights-to-pay-for-trains-should-other-european-countries-do-th

tristramg,
@tristramg@mamot.fr avatar

@jon appart from cross-border rail, do you know how other countries finance their infrastructure ?
French HSL are pretty well used close to max capacity, track fares are of the most expensive in Europe, yet apparently the network operator struggles, and SNCF barely breaks even on those lines.
Could EU-laws allow to finance tracks solely by the state (charging train operators only for saturation at specific times)

tristramg,
@tristramg@mamot.fr avatar

@ColmDonoghue @jon “appart from cross-border” ;) When Clément Beaune talks about train prices, it’s mostly about domestic flights.

But the questions still holds for the Perthus. If the track charges just for the tunnel where 200€ instead of 2200, maybe SNCF would push the trains to Perpignan a bit further. But who would pay then?
