“In our sun-down perambulations of late, through the outer parts of Brooklyn, we have observed several parties of youngsters playing ‘base,’ a certain game of ball…. Let us go forth awhile, and get better air in our lungs. Let us leave our close rooms…. The game of ball is glorious.”
“Listen, I’ve got something very obvious to tell you. You’re not allowed to give up. If they decide to kill me, it means that we are incredibly strong. We need to utilize this power, to not give up, to remember that we are a huge power, that is being repressed by these bad dudes. We don’t realize how strong we actually are. The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good people to do nothing. So don’t be inactive.”
I did not know this, but "The Little Prince" by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry is the second most translated book in the world. Over 505 languages. Second only to the Bible.
So... I'm watching Robert Altman's wonderful 1973 movie, THE LONG GOODBYE and I love the cat (private eye Philip Marlowe, played by Elliot Gould, has an orange tabby cat). And I'm thinking that cat is so perfect. How does one direct a cat? Is that even possible? But this cat is really good. So I research. Does this cat have name? Yes! Morris. And if you're of a certain age you've probably seen him before in the Nine Lives Cat Food commercials. #caturday#trivia
Criterion does it's end-of-year "room tone" roundup. I love this.
If you've done video or film production then you know getting room tone is one of those strange little necessities that editors pull their hair out if they don't have it.
One of my favorite real life stories is the founding of the company Industrial Light & Magic and how its "gang of outsiders" delivered the first STAR WARS film and started a revolution in the world of filmmaking.
The Disney Channel has a documentary all about that called LIGHT & MAGIC. I'm watching it for the second time now and loving it once again. Such a great story and what an amazing group of incredibly talented people.
Sat down with the family tonight, ate short ribs and watched LA LA LAND. Kids loved it. Daughter, though, had huge tears at the end. Such a great film. Better than I remembered it, and sadder, deeper.
