Married cat dad, data entry worker bee, union steward. I enjoy snacks, fresh air, speculative fiction, and I spend a lot of time just staring at the sky. You can also find me at https://lincolnite.net/@unprovoked.

@Binder This holds especially, painfully true in government work when the Gov. wants to run it all like a business.

    Morning people are a myth; they’re just normal people w/o the good sense to stay in bed.

    @Binder Guilty as charged, to my cats' eternal consternation. Though, in my defense, I don't consider myself a morning person; it's just how I provide kibble and peanut butter and kick sticks.

    @Binder Trans writers staged a protest of Substack in 2021. It created deep division within that community – but other writers on the platform had all that time to get their heads out of their asses. An exodus is good, but I'm not in a forgiving mood.

    Visiting a doctor whose staff don’t mask feels like getting my hair styled by a bald person.

    unprovoked,
    @unprovoked@petrous.vislae.town avatar

    @Binder I had a hospital clinic visit this week and, as far as we could see, my chaperone and I were the only masked people around. My reason for being there was my original off-site visit had to be rescheduled because that doctor became "extremely sick." A nurse offered to wear a mask if I "preferred" – I managed not to shout, "You've already been breathing over me without one, why put it on now?"

    I love this time of year, when non-USA pro sports turn up more often where I can stream them. Kabaddi League yesterday, NZ Super Smash. Canterbury Kings 105-5 vs. Auckland Aces; their target is 186. (44 balls to go.)

    Aces win by 27! 185/5 (20). Three wickets fell while Canterbury had 158 runs – while I was out of the room getting a snack. Jeez.

    my biggest criticism about the original Star Wars is that they called it a "Death Star". any evil imperialist organization worth its salt would hire a consulting firm to come up with something like "Liberation Sphere"

    unprovoked,
    @unprovoked@petrous.vislae.town avatar

    @healyn @Binder Kevin J. Anderson's mid-1990s Jedi Academy trilogy (now filed under Star Wars Legends) invoked this concept to justify a heel-face turn. From the TV Tropes summary: "Qwi Xux [a leading Imperial engineer] attempts to claim that the Death Star and World Devastators were designed for peaceful applications, like asteroid mining. Han points out that if that were the case, they probably wouldn't have had words like 'death' or 'devastator' in their names."
