I am a feminist and some sort of left anarchist. I like video games, FOSS software, Lord of the Rings, math, and summoning uncountably many demons by digging too deep.

I am not LGBTQ+ but I try to be a good ally. (How’s my driving?)

Why would you bother to resurrect the corpse of a cartoon long dead that children don’t care about and then fail to put the titular character in?

People only cared about the dog, and maybe Shaggy.

Don’t tell me you liked Velma. The only thing she ever did was lose her glasses.

My company also has job listings on its website that aren’t “real”. They have already been filled - months ago. HR is so dysfunctional it’s not on their priority list to take them down.

My managers get job applications all the time and sometimes forward them on to other departments that are hiring (because HR is taking too long to post new job listings)

I hate it here

Even if marijuana was descheduled, it would still be illegal due to Texas state law

I think most states in which it is illegal would remain illegal. Many states would probably update their laws in response to the DEA descheduling it.

urist,
@urist@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Right, which is why I bothered to link Texas law, which references by name.

My own state references it by name. I suspect many/most state marijuana laws predate the formation of the DEA but I’m not a historian/lawyer.

No no no, you don’t understand, Russia has (in the past) implemented my favorite economic system (please ignore all the people who died as political criminals), thus nothing they do is wrong. Rainbow earrings are just a small casualty, you gotta look big picture!

I always wondered the opposite of the harry potter universe.

So much of math was difficult to teach or obscure because of difficulties in visualization or computation. Surely there would have been at least one wizard over hundreds of years that could figure out how to use the powers of illusion magic to visualize things? To demonstrate integrals to the unfamiliar? To render a fractal like a julia set?

Even if magic iteslf followed little internal logic, it could be used as a tool, surely? But that’s the sort of fridge logic (warning tv tropes link) that maybe didn’t belong in a story book like Harry Potter. I had to stop reading anyway around the time house elves were introduced, anyway. I took issue with that stuff even when I was a kid.

I know right? Taco Bell has always been cheap garbage to shove in your face when you’re having a depression day.

Now it’s just garbage.

urist,
@urist@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Yea, it’s a ton of food. But, I remember when it was cheaper. Maybe I’m just old now. I don’t have the prices memorized of my local place but the last time I went it was more than I expected (but not $28 for just me…)

Tankie’s original use was for British communists who supported Soviet military expansion. In the modern sense, it is used to describe communists who are authoritarian-apologists. For example, a communist who romanticizes the Soviet Union or makes excuses for the Uyghur genocide is a tankie. I’ve also seen it stretched to...

urist, (edited )
@urist@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

I’m what most people would describe as left, and authoritarianism is the antithesis of what I believe in.

Calling every leftist a tankie removes nuance to political discourse and groups people together who don’t believe the same things, whose views are sometimes totally opposed.

It’s worth pushing back on how the meaning of this word is changing. OP is not arguing it should only apply to British communists, only that it should not be used as a cudgel against every leftie.

Palworld is $30 on steam. It’s a litttle expensive for an indie game but I’ve gotten my money’s worth already. It’s not perfect but I wasn’t expecting a AAA title. Honestly I’m just impressed multiplayer works as well as it does. I also appreciate that they didn’t shoehorn any awful cutscenes in. No story > bad story. It also runs pretty great, even though my computer is older and I’m using proton/linux.

Compare Pokémon scarlet, $70. Laggy. Unpolished. Missing features from previous games. Unskippable cutscenes with characters just standing around talking to each other. Boring basic story. Nothing to do at the end of the game (no battle tower). No new fun features (the open world feels empty and ugly, compare BotW/TotK). It’s too open, there is no Mt Moon to get lost in.

Even if the team makes no further improvements I’m still having fun with palworld. I don’t see myself ever replaying scarlet.

urist,
@urist@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Yea I’m with sheeple

I don’t think my buying habbits are going to communicate anything to a company. I buy what looks fun to play. “Real” pokemon games look like a worse and worse buy, and that’s just how it is. I don’t expect them to change their development cycle at all.

At best, I hope Palworld’s (and cassette beast’s) success attracts better companies to make their own version. If this lights a fire under gamefreak’s butt I will be extremely (and happily) surprised.

I see you’ve spawned a heated argument. I know this post is old but I have a different take:

Don’t ban Russia. It’s just athletics, it’s not that big of a deal. All athletes should get the chance to compete even if they live in countries that encourage their cheating. Ban the cheaters and their coaches when they are exposed.

Perhaps ask Russia to pay a fine if they wish to continue to send athletes. This would dissuade them from forcing their young adults/teens to alter their body chemistry.

The Olympics is supposed to be somewhere every country can participate.

Care to elaborate on how abortion restrictions “keeps the garbage coming”?

urist,
@urist@lemmy.blahaj.zone avatar

Apologies for the late reply.

Actually I didn’t, which is why I asked that question. Your writing is unclear (which is why multiple people seem to be concerned about it), and you’re assuming the reader will understand your comment in specific context.

Why would I assume republicans (who are anti abortion) get enough abortions to influence how many of them there are? Can we even assume that having access to abortion influences population size when sterilization exists, and is something people get when they’ve had enough children? These are hypothetical questions, I don’t expect you to answer them. I’m just pointing out that without being clear, you can’t assume folks will read your post under the context you feel is obvious.

I kind of doubt that official government agencies, with charters and legal authorities for operation, are committing mail fraud on the regular and that sovereign citizens are the only ones smart enough to peel back the veil.

I think that is a great summary of their beliefs.

Sovcits don’t have the right to renounce their nationality as far as the USA government is concerned.

There is an official process to remove USA citizenship/nationality, it costs money and has to be done at an embassy. See here:

travel.gov faq

Importantly:

“The U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Supreme Court have concluded that the intention to relinquish U.S. nationality […] does not exist where a renunciant claims a right to continue to reside in the United States, unless the renunciant demonstrates that residence will be as an alien documented properly under U.S. law.”

Since sovcits don’t have a second nationality, they can’t live here legally as an alien. So basically, their request to renounce their nationality would be rejected. They still owe taxes and child support, so sad for them. They still may be able to reject their citizenship (right to passports, right to vote) but not their nationality and couldn’t be deported. I’m not a lawyer, I mean, just thought it was interesting. I imagine children who’s parents have not gotten them a birth certificate would have similar (but fixable) legal problems.

Anyway, stateless people do actually exist in the world, they are refugees and face hardship. The UN considers it a human rights problem.

I found this article interesting (it is about stateless refugees trapped in the USA, and this law college would like to advocate for them):

U Chicago article
