Hey @Unixbigot !
I wondered what that multi-microphone home assistant module was as per presentation? Went and installed didn't I? Can give it up any time I like...

vik,
@vik@mastodon.nzoss.nz avatar

@Unixbigot Korvo looks good. Is there a speaker you'd recommend? Can the speaker go in the same box without crapping on the microphone?

Configured an device up with two buttons on it, and an 18650 battery. Battery doesn't last overnight, which is a bit disappointing. I need something I can stick on a wall that runs forever off a CR2032 (used to have those with the ancient X10 system).

@tj @zrail Problem here is that the thing has to reconnect to the wifi before my light turns on. Meanwhiles here's me standing in the dark...

vik,
@vik@mastodon.nzoss.nz avatar

@zrail @tj Yeah, might be doing silly things with 433MHz wireless and cheap ardweenies or pis.

@amoose136 @stooovie Ah, don't have a Yellow, just my own Pi 5. Haven't got a Zigbee dongle and as they're $75 in this neck of the woods it'll have to wait a bit 'cos I have other toys to sort out first :)

Does anyone make an module in a solar powered box or is this always a DIY job?

Today I carved a rather nice dibber for Suz out of an olive branch. She is now loaded for vampire.

Tried sending an APK to a mate on his gmail account. Google blocked it as "spam."

Happy to report the Diamond Age solar farm just saved its first tonne of CO2.

Hey, there are two capable dev boards in the swag bag!

  • Arduino Nano RP2040 Connect

  • Soldered InkPlate 2 (ESP32 / colour e-paper screen)

vik,
@vik@mastodon.nzoss.nz avatar

@scruss InkPlate 2? Hmmmmm...

(Discovered ESPhome and everything looks like an appliance!)

vik,
@vik@mastodon.nzoss.nz avatar

@scruss Just out of interest, would it be hard to port the Quirkey Accessibility Keyboard code from to ? https://github.com/VikOlliver/Quirkey

vik,
@vik@mastodon.nzoss.nz avatar

@scruss Fair enough. Just curious, not trying to dump a project on you honest.

What they shouldn't tell you in the manual: Use the Supervisor Panel. It no longer exists. The Control Panel a quick web search tells you to use instead no longer exists either...

@frenck
Looking up how to program ESPhome devices. Want me to dig up a URL tomorrow?

vik,
@vik@mastodon.nzoss.nz avatar

@frenck Looks like the first one I found was an ESPhome tutorial rather than a HA manual per se so probably out of your control? https://esphome.io/guides/getting_started_hassio.html

On the plus side, I did get it working!

This afternoon at the I taught this young girl to solder. She made a glow-bug that lights up in the dark, worked first time.
Some may not be on board with giving kids hot pointy things, so I expressed my confidence in her (and to her Gran) by holding the board while she soldered the final components in place. She now thinks "gluing things together with molten metal" is super cool.

My Mk 1 Quirkey used an ESP32. So I plugged it into , fired up ESPhome and told it to program the attached device. Now when I hit the control key on the Quirkey keyboard, I can turn the TV on. All I had to do was change a pin number in a YAML file. Gobsmacked.

I've programmed up an Athom wifi plug in to monitor the beer fridge power. In theory it should always be turned on, and get turned on if it reconnects or HomeAssistant resets. Also it should ping me if the plug vanishes off the network so I know if something has blown up. If this works I'll use it to monitor the freezer.

@bear_lab I don't extrude yet :) Right now I am scratching the design in a thin layer of Sharpie marker. Next step is to dip the point in UV resin and use it like an old-fashioned ink pen. Capillary action on an object that small should do the rest, as long as I keep going back to dip it. This is the next major step in exciting experimentation...

vik,
@vik@mastodon.nzoss.nz avatar

@bear_lab You're welcome. I'm happy to share STLs, instructions, and so forth. I just can't guarantee everything will work yet.

Things they don't tell you in the manual: When connecting your Raspberry by to the same router as your PC, the router needs to be connected to the internet.
