Pretty interesting watching the crows rotate in and out while keeping a steady presence and chattering with one another. The hawk meanwhile is showing zero interest to engage or move.

Meanwhile, there's a chunky gopher that keeps coming up underneath this mess, trying to be discrete, and sneaking off with some weeds and back down the hole every now and then. I think the gopher is appreciating that the crows are keeping the hawk distracted while it tries to gather up some lunch.

The square quarter mile around me right now is the scene of a violent murder (of crows).

The crows have decidedly won the battle and left the area very quickly after. It's quiet now. The gopher has gone back to hiding.

@stepschwarz I was always "wheeling and dealing" when I was poor. Selling or reselling stuff on ebay, fixing cars, doing odd jobs on weekends and evenings. When you (not you specifically) are used to doing that to survive and you get extra income, you tend to immediately spend it out of reaction because of the sense of if you don't you're going to have to pay a parking ticket or something with it instead and CDs were something that could last you years.

@pixel "Mandated Reporter" is a classification in the US that legally requires a person to report abuse (eg, physical, sexual, emotional abuse or neglect) to police/social agency. Failing to report can make a mandated reporter also co-liable for the abuse.

In some states, like California, clergy are "mandated reporters".

@sanityinc That's called "urgent care" here, but it's not a replacement for routine doctor visits (physical, optometrist, psychiatrist, etc.). That's more for like if you have a fever or some kind of wound that doesn't require the ER.

@sanityinc Generally, you won't see your physician the same day for an incidental visit, but a nurse, nurse practitioner, or physician's assistant that works for your doctor, but you still generally need an appointment, especially on this side of covid.

@ahoneybun I was dismayed to learn that Windows pretty much never leaves NTFS in a clean state because it doesn't really clean shut down anymore, but defaults to hibernate. This means you pretty much always need to run this before mounting a Windows system NTFS volume on Linux/BSD.

@ahoneybun Exactly. On modern Windows, that dirty bit will almost always be there, because Windows no longer really shuts down when you tell it to. When you "shut down", it hibernates by default to speed up the boot up time.

@major It looks like it has the avx2 instruction set, so it should squeak by for RHEL 10, as I understand it.
