Tom Dyson, a founding member of the Wagtail team, took some time to reflect on the ups and downs of how Wagtail CMS grew over 10 years from a tiny open source project into a CMS trusted by NASA, Google, the National Health Service, and several other organizations around the world. It's been quite the journey!

Hi @wagtail do you think we can make this RFC a proposal for Django itself? I know I want a queuing solution in core. I know @jacob does too. I know @webology does too. I know … — hang on that list would go a while. 😅

It reads well. It would make the great basis for a DEP.

@markush @carlton @wagtail @jacob @webology @tobide @honzakral hmm, hopefully @gasman or @jake will know! Or comment on https://github.com/wagtail/rfcs/pull/72, feedback is welcome from anyone. Only issue I could see is we’re due to work on this very soon

👋 Fediverse folks, what do you think of adding support in or ? See discussion: https://github.com/wagtail/wagtail/discussions/9732

It’s a neat idea, a few other platforms have it as a package, we’re wondering how much interest there would be

wagtail,
@wagtail@fosstodon.org avatar

@webology @paulox if you think it’s close enough of a subject we’d be interested to hear more about that too! We’re working on new project templates currently, so even something like specific microformats or webring support could be quite a quick win.

wagtail,
@wagtail@fosstodon.org avatar

@phiofx @paulox oh interesting, that’s a lot of options already. So Wagtail support efforts would probably be best spent on integrating one of those with CMS features, rather than re-implementing ActivityPub?

wagtail,
@wagtail@fosstodon.org avatar

@phiofx @paulox @andrew @cda @alain Do you mind expanding on the "opinionated" side of things? We don’t have much ActivityPub expertise currently so even just a reference to an appropriate resource would help a lot.

“I would love to have the environmental impact numbers for Drupal, that the Wagtail has for Wagtail”

@mgifford speaking about accessibility and web sustainability at #FOSDEM. Figured the @wagtail group would appreciate this. More below, with a link to his talk

@mrchrisadams @mgifford @wagtail ☺️ looking forward to opportunities for inter-CMS collaboration in the sustainability space

wagtail,

@laryn @mgifford From our side, the biggest opportunities are a repeat of something like https://accessibilitycluster.com/ with a sustainability focus – and standardisation efforts like https://w3c.github.io/sustyweb/. Concrete example: https://github.com/w3c/sustyweb/issues/22

For my ( ) hobby, I catalog videos that make up online courses (most only one video, some multiple) by writing a “timeline” for each, signposting for people where to find particular items in each video. This is currently just written up in Apple Pages, exported as a PDF and shared by Dropbox link. I started a website a while ago using @django to make it more accessible and searchable but never really came up with a completely satisfactory data structure (see pic)

wagtail,
@wagtail@fosstodon.org avatar

@tamas @jmb TableBlock data is stored in JSON so might not be what you’re after if you already have a clear DB schema? But it’s much more flexible since it’s literally just an editable HTML <table> with no constraints.
