I just had an idea for a neat thing Apple could do.

Y’know the little tabs that pop up when you select text in iOS?

It’d be cool if the device learned which actions you tend to choose in a given situation.

So, if you choose “Translate” more often than, say, “Format,” they could make that a little easier for you.

This is an idea that I just had.

@hotdogsladies We've got one a lot like that as well. Our son (Billy!) called it “Mr. Greedy’s automobile" because it was predominantly blue.

My son got some fancy keycaps for one of his keyboards, and while I like the feel overall, I realized only after trying to use it myself that this compact layout lacks a backtick/tilde key, making it impossible to do a code span in Markdown.

@gruber TWO control keys on the left side?

@gruber Ah, I was wondering about that. I guess without the square around it, it looks teeny (well, and the battery is indeed a loot larger than the Touch ID sensor :-)

    @schwa why’re you getting rid of it so soon? Tired of camping adventures?

    Removing pops from a vinyl record rip is tedious as hell. I was trying to come up with a better (or automated) way to identify where pops are without listening to the entire thing in real time, and I thought of using a derivative of the signal (the idea being that pops should show as abrupt changes).

    But then I just stumbled upon a simple solution: looking at the spectrogram!

    Pops show as ghostly bars in the background of the signal.

    @wklj@mastodon.social avatar

    @brunoph wait… records when new definitely sound better than cassette tapes. They may not age as well, but that’s a different issue. And I guess you have to learn to tolerate the pops. There is a certain nostalgia to them, if you’re old like me. But I won’t argue they’re the best format.

    I love how indignant Ken Jennings can get when plays host to less than stellar contestants. Like you can practically hear him mutter “How’d you make it on here anyway?” under his breath. 😂

    @wklj@mastodon.social avatar

    @gedeonm Are they back to new contestants now? After the ToC when they went to ANOTHER round of tournaments before the uber ToC I gave up, and am now 58 episodes behind according to my TiVo, and that doesn't include the uber ToC which was actually a different tournament of 10.

    @GottaLaff LOL.

    That said, when you get through to the real numbers, looks like the bottom line expenses without the one-times were $5.8M for the quarter, so with $770K in revenue, we're talking a net -$5M. With stated cash and cash equivalents of $273M, that's enough to keep going for 13 years.

    ... So I guess the hate parade/echo chamber could keep going for a while, but it doesn't mean I'm ever gonna view it :-)
