Shucks. Looks like mstdn.games has on their block list, too. That is annoying. I've requested that QOTO be unblocked. @freemo

We borrowed some code from that had nested ternaries without parenthesis. Turns out that as a fatal error in PHP 8 on our production server but not on the earlier PHP on our development server. Wow... a language with breaking syntax changes. I'll stick with sound , where you never have too few parenthesis.

@kevin @arnan @Crell I agree! I'm just surprised they got under my radar. They are like a diabolic cond wannabe

worldsendless,
@worldsendless@qoto.org avatar

@Crell No kidding! It's had an open ticket to match their versions for months now, but upgrading the PHP version on shared servers is complicated. I definitely miss our solid Clojure setups.

One of the biggest life-savers on #emacs #exwm has been the command xrandr -s 0. This somehow refreshes things and causes my triple-monitors to wakeup in ways that -auto and -set do not. But I cannot find documentation on it ANYWHERE; I've checked the manpages, web search... nothing!

EDIT: just tried xrandr --help and saw that it is short for --size. I'm still not sure why it works such miracles, though...

Proposal: an HTML element for spoilers - @Seirdy : https://seirdy.one/posts/2023/11/12/spoiler-element/

@alilly 's response: https://www.alm.website/blog/2023-11-12-note-1

While I'd have no trouble adding support in Haphaestus, for Rhapsode's sake I back a request for a "topics" (or whatever you want to name it) attribute. As I've stated before both publicly & privately.

My issue is that in Rhapsode's UX any interactive control needs a textual label to be triggerable.

@alcinnz @Seirdy @alilly
don't we already have that in html with <summary> element? https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/HTML/Element/details

Woke: Using Clojure because is just the better build system and , and suck.

@ljrk leiningen uses the Maven store, but the interface is better

🔴 Today on Live, we'll investigate a few options for improving the IRC experience so that more people might be able to join us there! The Matrix Libera.Chat bridge shutdown has been pretty tragic, let's try to address that.

Also, today we're experimenting with streaming ONLY on Twitch! No YouTube stream today. Let me know what you think!

@daviwil Just for the record, since I watch twitch and other platforms I have started using libredirect to point to privacy-friendly versions of those sites; this has the effect that it might not count me as a viewer, and also I cannot participate in the chat on the video. But other than those, it works great SafeTwitch). So, I am watching -- but you might not know it

I was thinking of finding a new package manager that allows easier version-pinning than does Straight.el. Rabbit hole; read through a big reddit thread on this topic from 7 months ago and realized now is not the time. Maybe I'll come back to this later; for now Straight is good enough.

worldsendless,
@worldsendless@qoto.org avatar

@dekkzz76 just the opposite, actually. There are some high-usage packages that, wisely or not, make some semi-breaking alpha changes on their main branch, and I need to lock myself to a stable one.

worldsendless,
@worldsendless@qoto.org avatar

@dekkzz76 (version pinning is a very common idea in package managers, apparently, so my response probably didn't do the topic justice)

@fsf Where can I learn more about GPL-ideals and non-software content creators, like musicians and authors? Maybe this is more of a @dff question, but is this precisely outside the purview of things like the GPL? What about ownership for performers?

@daviwil Whoa! I didn't realize that you had moved away from exwm. Have you also moved away from Guix?

worldsendless,
@worldsendless@qoto.org avatar

@daviwil ah, yeah. The instability while streaming would definitely fall under the "Glass" part of my analysis. Not doing that sort of content creation, though, I'm not sensitive to the shortcomings of the X (x-window) in EXWM. I feel as "impossible for me to change" about EXWM. It was you and your stream that made me aware and persuaded as to Guix, though

worldsendless,
@worldsendless@qoto.org avatar

@daviwil @benoitj

I am painfully ignorant of the major benefits of ; so far I have only taken time to use it as a glorified package manager although I am using a full system install; I love it on principle, because @fsf but haven't looked in to anything deeper than package management.

@daviwil That was good. I've been meaning to try denote, but my current note toking with orgmode files has been good for me for years

worldsendless, to emacs
@worldsendless@qoto.org avatar

are really cool; they can allow me, eg, to attach the wav file of that crazy voicemail from my son to my journal entry for the day. The moment you do that, however, you are introducing application lock-in to your org file; future readings of the plain text cannot recover that attachment unless they are using orgmode, likewise git. I am probably still going to do it, though. But this is annoying.

worldsendless,
@worldsendless@qoto.org avatar

@freemo that would be the typical non-attachment simple link. With attachments, a randomly named directory is created adjacent, and the filename is encoded/nomalized. Then the org file gets an attachmentkey added which includes said generated encoding.

I guess the benefit is that it is independent of the original file which could be trashed, modified, or deleted. But the indirect refactoring is a little strange.
