Flying home and thinking A LOT about last week’s .

First of all, our @jaredbyrd KILLED IT and finished 12th overall with a time of 84:09:54. I’m blown away.

We met later after we’d both finished. Wish I’d taken a pic with him.

I had my best Cocodona performance yet, I finished in 95:43:19, 34th overall. I worked hard for my sub-96 hour goal.

We had good weather, amazing desert flowers and colors to dazzle us, and lots of struggle.

It hurt. It was awesome.

Do I have any friends here experienced in Mac development and building UI with constraints, disclosure boxes, and Objective-C? We're new to this more-complex UI and could use some some help getting over this layout speedbump.

Today I ran 6 hours, 24 miles. Afterward I was pretty wiped out, but mostly emotionally. My right foot hurt, I was feeling a little dehydrated, and I was tired, but what I disliked most was how I felt so so SAD. The low hydration/low calorie body was causing my soul to cry. It took about an hour until I could eat (westbound US2 traffic, IYKYK), and after getting food my outlook improved.

WA PCT section K was busy!

Trying to make timecode burns of some H.264 GoPro footage that has timecode, but the new H264 MP4 files from Compressor or Adobe Media Encoder don't have timecode.

Suggestions for how to get a new output with TC that matches the original file?

There are three primary archetypes for visionOS usage that I can see:

  1. On a couch, consuming media/movie watching
  2. At a desk, with physical keyboard and mouse/trackpad
  3. Wandering around your house, using the virtual keyboard

Where do your apps fit in? Have you identified a different niche that makes sense for you?

(I have, of course, seen the fun 'painting a picture at the park’ videos of the Quest 3, but that's probably not a normal use case 😛)

@stroughtonsmith a variation on option 2, I’m hoping that one day, after my van is converted, I’ll be able to sit or stand in my small space but feel like I’m at my desk with multiple large displays.

any way to import folders as Events? One Finder folder=One FCPX Event with matching names?

It would be tremendously useful to me. One day of shooting = one event. As is, I have to manually create an event and copypaste filename, which is time consuming and annoying

@latenite Hi Chris, I love CC's "Batch export from active timeline" feature and use it all the time for roundtripping with AE BUT could we please omit this warning dialog every time?

Can't find People in a newly iCloud-synced Photos library. Faces have been found on my other computers and my iPhone, is the found face data not synced with iCloud?

@WTL @matt I feel like I have heard that, but it doesn't make sense to me. iMessages are encrypted to ensure privacy, and iMessages can be synced through iCloud, but photo metadata cannot? The photos themselves are synced, there's less concern for privacy about the actual images?

@waynedixon @matt @WTL Feels like manually tagging thousands and thousands of photos defeats the purpose of computers. 🥵 On my phone at least I don’t see a way to “confirm” the system’s automatic recognition of me.

@stooovie Whoa, that recording is wild. I just tried the Hold stretching on a ProRes clip and while it didn't immediately reproduce, I did get the flashy behavior after trimming the end of the clip after setting the Hold. I’m sure you've reported it but I’ll report it too.

Keynote is the only app in the iWork suite that has a native visionOS version currently uploaded to the App Store; it joins the TestFlight app.

At this time (still a couple weeks from launch), none of Apple’s other non-in-box apps have native visionOS versions from what I can see.

(EDIT: Playgrounds looks to be available in iPad compatibility mode. GarageBand, Final Cut Pro, Logic, and iMovie do not appear to be available at all)

@WTL @stroughtonsmith You should! If you’re a heavy FCP user you’ll probably instantly hit FCP for iPad’s differences.

Not that it isn’t useful for some user types, but we aren’t its target market.

Mapping question about something I’m seeing in Gaia GPS in the “Outdoors” layer.

The map shows a purple line that follows some roads and trails. If I zoom in the line is shown as purple dots. These purple dots indicate a route?

I finally found a label for this purple line, but so far my internet searches find nothing about this “Cross Snohomish County Hike & Bike Route.”

Clearly this route exists in this map. Where did it come from and how can I learn more about it?
