oh, you want to configure a guest in a vm that explicitly should not have ssh? Well we have "become" for that, but that's all completely broken and all workarounds are broken too, so after 3 days of trying workarounds for broken by design and broken by half-hearted implementations stuff in ansible, you find out the only workaround is to run several playbooks interleaved into each other, turning on ssh temporarily 💩

    It generally really greases the wheels to know people beforehand. E.g. From conferences, meetups, etc.

    It's far from the only way though, just the easiest.

    Summary: cars depreciate from new towards zero. Only some folks buy brand new and run 'em into the ground. Many more lease then sell on or buy 2nd hand and re-sell later, extracting value. If you put a floor under the price of 2nd hand cars (b/c batteries in such cars have to have useful residual capacity) then you just raised the cost of driving for a large proportion of poorer drivers—unsustainably.

    So cars either have to become a much cheaper centralized mass product with reduced repairability and no secondary market.

    Possibly e-cars will always need to be heavily subsidized by tax money.

    Or they become a niche thing for the very rich, while general transport has to go other directions entirely. Possibly invalidating our last 1xx years of investment in roads. In time infrastructure for cars declines all together.

    Mir düngt schön langsam, dass die Dame vermutlich deswegen die inhaltliche Diskussion scheut, weil sie tatsächlich null Plan davon hat, was sie hier vertritt und auch kein Interesse es zu verstehen.

    Wir kämpfen hier tatsächlich gegen Leute die bereit sind für irgendeinen persönlichen Vorteil alle EU Bürger auszuliefern und sich daher dumm und taub stellen gegenüber alle vernünftigen Argumenten. 🤦😨

    1. if everybody keeps to the rules, that frees a lot of mind-space for other things.
    2. if the rules are fair, more people keep to the rules while happy

    This additional capacity of mind can then be used to do science and engineering and great things for all. Or it can be used to find ways to abuse the rules. Currently people who do the later run higher risks but also get higher rewards AND are still celebrated for it. At very least, that we should stop!

    Can only guess. I have a portrait monitor everywhere I have a PC setup. 😄

    a) mediamarkt never demonstrates this for them? 😅
    b) you need at least a 1200x1920 screen for portrait orientation. 1080 is just too narrow. They were not common last time I shopped for a portrait monitor

    "US Drivers seldom know the rules and generally are not very good drivers" is what an American that spent 12 years altogether in Austria, Italy and Switzerland told me in a bar.

    What struck me though, back in Austria and driving around with a car in the outskirts of Vienna, is how very noticeable much more aggressive everyone is driving here.

    Hab ich letztens erwähnt dass man den Kurier nicht mehr lesen kann?

    Manchmal geht's doch noch, für die Genugtuung dass manche Zeichen und Aktionen wohl auch dort nicht ignoriert werden können.

    Wäre jetzt noch nett, wenn sie weniger hochmütig Nasenrumpfen würden darüber dass eine ORF Show ganz banale John Oliver Aktionen macht, sondern sich vielleicht fragen ob sie nicht drei mm mit drei km rechts der Mitte verwechselt haben.

    Had half a day left in San Diego, what to do. Well, I've never been on an so I went and checked out the USS Midway Museum.

    I expected some marvelous engineering and some military posing. I got a bit more military framing that I had the taste for, but also the engineering 😅

    Many old sailors that served on that ship are now here explaining the ship to you. To them it was just a hard job with good money that someone else deemed necessary and where they could help.

    Some more pictures of the USS Midway Museum. The ship they called the "USS NeverDock" because the floating city did the longest streteches on Sea of all of them.

    Below the Flightdeck on the way to the pilot ready rooms (briefing rooms) is the Pilot Instrument Training Room.
    tons of radio receivers. likely so many frequencies can be monitored in parallel and several radio conversations held and patched through to the rest of the ship.

    E.g.
    todos for when you are exhausted and just want to relax: watch that movie you always wanted to see
    Todo for when you are motivated and full of energy: get that thing started you've been putting off.
    Todos for when you want to do something to pass the time or focus thoughts on something mundane.

    Etc.

    Of course, since it's California, there are still cars everywhere and it's almost impossible to get anywhere without a car.

    Electric cars and charging stations are on the rise, but not nearly as pervasive as they should be. Feels like 6%, if I had to guess.

    Very briefly met the inventor of Paxlovid, George Smith, on the street yesterday.

    Quote: "I didn't get a lot of money out of it, but it was one of the best moments in my life when both my kids took a drug I developed"

    Things like this always make me think that we should make a list of all the ways to motivate people to contribute to society that don't involve money or scarcity or the threat of not being able to live without money. Because I hate the narrative that is "necessary".

    Mehr und mehr komm ich zum Schluss dass die Übel unserer Welt jeder Art ist. Framing, Werbung, , gekaufter .

    Und dass der einzige Weg da raus Bildung und Journalismus zu haben, die ausschließlich von Bürgern finanziert wird und daher für Bürger arbeitet. Ohne Werbung.
