I have just installed Xubuntu 23.04 (minimal edition) and removed the snaps. I forgot how fast and nice Xfce actually is. I really like using it, coming from a window manager and Arch. The only downside that I found is the Ubuntu repos; yes, they have most stuff but they're just old (even on 23.04). I hope I won't feel the need...
I started using Xfce out of necessity, where Ubuntu with Gnome would take 510 minutes to boot up on my old computer, while Xubuntu and Mint Xfce would take no more than 1 minute and 20 seconds (this being in the past 12 years).
Now that I finally got a new computer (the old one was working overtime, poor thing), despite being a big leap, I still see myself installing Xfce systems out of habit (but hey, at least optimization is a good habit to have =D ).
Not to get spoiler territory. The first time you go into battle, Yukari drops her gun and the main character picks it up and without any knowledge or prompting takes the gun and shoots themselves in the head, which summons their Persona. It was shocking and brought back a bunch of memories from playing this game as a teenager.
It's even more impactful in the PS2 versions, given the minimal exposition dump those versions give, as well as characters being rendered during scenes and CGs being fully animated and designed in a way that make them few off somehow.
Greetings, kbeans! I wanted to inform you that Kbin Link is now available on the Firefox Extension Store. If you're interested, you can find more information about it here: https://github.com/driccio98/kbin-link....
Does it work on Waterfox too? The page says "You need an updated version of Firefox for this extension". Maybe an issue with the difference between Firefox and Waterfox's update naming conventions?
As title. Even better if whatever you use also helps with recommendations! I’ve been mostly using Goodreads, but Bookwyrm looks like a neat decentralized alternative. Does anyone have any experience with it?
I use a LibreOffice sheet for pending stuff, and as a form of control list for stuff I either recommend or not (which also indicates stuff I either completed or dropped).
Hi all. I was hoping someone knew of some good resources on troubleshooting problems running games in Wine. How to identify a problem and steps to take when things don't work, or partially work....
Can't remember any specific documentations, but based on what you commented, first, you need to check if the game requires either DirectX or Direct3D. If it does, you need to check if your computer is compatible with Vulkan (which wasn't a straight forward search, when I dug on that), and if it is, install DXVK (if it isn't, you need to hope that OpenGL won't be too laggy).
Regarding error logs. what I do is read through the log if things start misbehaving, and try to identify any oddities in the log (such as the aforementioned DLL not initializing), and try to fix by myself. And if I don't know how to proceed, I search for the error followed by either "wine" or the game's name on Google, and check places such as WineDB, Reddit (oopsie XD ), ProtonDB's page for the Steam version of a game (if available), Stack Overflow's satellite sites, game forums such as GOG's, Steam's, or even GameFAQS.
And if I can't get the game running properly or at all with Wine or its variants, I seek source ports, wrappers, engine emulators, etc., for that given game. Some may even be playable on Android, so possibly you can get them running on WSA equivalents on Linux, or even Android-x86 or BlissOS through VMs if you're adventurous.
Example: I have an "autistic af" bumper sticker on my car so that the cops don't think I'm doing something shady because I don't want to make eye contact.
Tip: you can break lines either by pressing break line twice (it'll show a full empty line once posted), or by pressing space twice at the end of the paragraph (it'll result in a simple line break).
For Final Fantasy II specifically, I would instead recommend the PSP version. Given how experimental its leveling system is, to use and abuse of it properly, the PSP and the (now delisted) OG Android version are the best ones, as they have more contents to keep the player entertained, instead of being just a grind galore, as well as offering far more options as to how to break the game to the player's advantage.
So ive know ive had autism for years now and i still dont know how to deal with it and i keep hyperfocusing on rrandom things that chang eevery day and certain things bother me, I find autistic to be a stuggle and i feel like other people dont understand the stuff we have to go thru. like my family has know about me being...
Perhaps being an "issue" depends on your approach, and you didn't find the right one yet?
Using my own experiences as basis, my first problem was probably seeing my condition, previously known as "Aspherger" (can't remember the new name, and likely accompanied by ADHD pending attention deficit) as an issue that needed to be "treated", like it was some sexual disease.
I think things started to change once, when changing psychiatrists (can't remember why), I got to one that, since the beginning, showed interest in actually trying to help. And among his comments, one that struck me as odd was in the lines of "do you think you need medications?"
While I'm fairly sure I resisted the idea he tried to pass at first, I have a habit of analyzing and evaluating things in retrospect. And a lot of stuff, most triggered and/or aggravated by my impulsiveness, distractability and hypefocus, happening in a relative short time (things like, out of the blue, deciding to try to learn a new language, to go after a specific job, to use an OS I had never tried before, to listen to a band that sings about history, to learn yet another language, etc.), all with overall positive results, made me consider more seriously the message the psychiatrist was giving. Do I have a problem?
Now, I try to see how any "issue" I have from autism/ADHD can be turned into a strength, and I'm starting to think that they were issues only because people, myself included, wanted to see it as a problem, and that those "issues" are just a different path to get the same situations done/solved.
And I think people notice my change in posture, since now I can feel more engagement and interest in them when we talk, even when the subject is autism/ADHD.
Now, I end this line of thought with the same question I started it: Perhaps being an "issue" depends on your approach, and you didn't find the right one yet?
Alternatively, click on the Kbin logo on the top left, click on the /sub to the right of the logo, and choose the tab you seem fit (top, hot, newest, active and commented).
Right now I have a project that's been unfinished for over a month. It was something I repaired that didn't work, but I got everything working and now I've lost interest in it. It's still there on my bench all torn apart. It all works, but I just can't bring myself to take that last little step to button it all up....
It could be ADHD too, since autism and ADHD often walk side by side.
But one thing I try to do, when I can't get myself to finish my projects, is to find why I can't do it, and how I can circumvent the roadblock so I can come back to the project (or even if it's worth trying to complete the project, at least on that given moment).
And as stress due to the project not progressing can be a roadblock on itself, one thing I like to do is doing side projects to cool my head from the original project.
And being a bit of a data hoarder myself, I keep track of all my projects' progress, while also dividing them in concise groups, so that it's easier to see how progress is going, and to choose a new pending project more easily if needed.
From metal bands, I've been hearing a lot of Powerwolf, Nightwish, Sabaton, Battle Beast, Beast in Black, Brothers of Metal, Babymetal, Gloryhammer, DragonForce, Rammstein and Rhapsody. Basically, pending to the more melodic metal musics with a faster tempo.
I think it's a good opportunity for renewal: since Kbin is so young, it doesn't have the vices or the overwhelming amount of contents from Reddit, while also having a simpler and less intimidating UI.
So if the user sees a magazine/community that seems even a little interesting, I think it's worth subscribing. There's a chance it's a good community the user always skipped on Reddit for the aforementioned reasons.
And that's also what I've been doing, and I certainly don't regret.
I've finally finished my exams, and now finnaly have some time to play. I was wondering what games I should try out? I usually end up playing for 30 minutes before losing my attention span, so I'm looking for a very immersive and simple to get into game. Anybody got any suggestions?

Also dunno how Nintendo's emulation subscription is faring, so not recommending on that.
Btw, one thing to note: Mary Skelter Nightmares comes as an unlockable content of Mary Skelter 2, and the game is unlocked by fulfilling certain conditions on Mary Skelter 2.
Yes, a full game as an unlockable content. No paid DLC.
And some story points change from the original GOG/PS Vita/Steam release, so I consider the one that comes with Mary Skelter 2 enough of a different game.

In this regard, I recommend 3 stores, in no specific order: GOG, Project EGG and Zoom Platform (not to be confused with Zoom Meetings)
Those 3, to my knowledge, are the stores that are the most actively seeking to bring back games of yore. (Do mind, however, that the store Project EGG is only in Japanese and also requires a subscription, as well as having some basic DRM)
You can try to set antimicrox (emulates keyboard keys on your controller, and that's the name of the package) to use an unused key from your controller as some key that doesn't affect your usage.
Alternatively, you can try to disable all power manager options for turning off the screen. Do mind, however, that at least on Xfce, if you just toggle settings off, the screen will keep turning off, so you need to put all sliders to 0 or the minimum possible before disabling the option.
Rexxit refugee here, so I guess I'll try to do my part in case things don't improve on Reddit. So what are dragons or similar beings like in your world?...
If/when I do sketches that include dragons, they're mostly the western type, and are just normal animals of a given world, but with human-like intelligence, limited magic abilities and often with a small population.
I also often include a serpentine dragon, akin to (iirc) the east dragon of Chinese myths. This dragon's origin is unknown, as well as being extremely old, the last of its species (although this dragon did have a few crossbreeds with other dragons, most of which are deceased, either by age or battles) and being the only known living dragon with vast magic abilities.
But those are sketches and I dunno if/when I'd make a story with them.

Replaying Persona 3 Portable and I completely forgot how they activated their Persona. It was shocking to say the least.
