I check in here quite often, but for now, I'm just focusing on clearing spam and keeping the instance alive. In January, I was working on the AP module, and there has been significant progress in the work, which hasn't been publicly published yet. Unfortunately, at the beginning of the year, I developed a skin condition that...
I'm really glad to hear that you're alright. Several skin conditions are effectively autoimmune disorders, so I'm absolutely not surprised that the treatment is rough—anything that affects your immune system is probably going to make you feel like shit. I have no idea if that's the case, but it seems likely. I hope that your procedure goes well, your treatment is effective, and your condition ceases to be a problem for you. Health and wellness always come first.
I don't have a lot to say this time, but here's the biggest Interstellar update we've had so far. This update includes almost full support for Lemmy (notification viewing, direct messages, and post creation don't work yet though), there's a new user/magazine mentions feature, user profile pages now let you view a user's comments...
It's uh, very racist. I didn't know just how bad it was until today, but this Wikipedia article posted elsewhere in this thread does a good job of breaking down how fucked up it is: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rice_burner
The people using the term nowadays probably don't know, but they should learn. It's pretty bad.
I have an AKiTiO Node Titan eGPU enclosure with a GTX 1070 hooked up to an Ubuntu 22.04 laptop and it's working pretty well. I'm doing PCI passthrough to an Arch Linux VM, since my company mandated that all Linux users must use Ubuntu. To stave off comments about this, I'll say that it's not just that I dislike Ubuntu. They're requiring me to lock down so much stuff that I can't do my job. Plus, the endpoint security sensor on the host plays absolute hell with anything that uses heavy multiprocessing. The GPU (with external monitors), second NVMe drive, mouse, keyboard, audio interface, microphone, webcam, 30 gigs of RAM, and 11 CPU cores are passed to the VM, and the host OS gets the laptop GPU + monitor and my continuing disdain.
I've been using this setup for a month. My experience thus far has been positive. I start the computer up with or without the GPU connected, connect the GPU if I haven't yet, launch my VM via libvirt, and things just work. I really thought I'd have more problems with the GPU, but the USB passthrough stuff has been the truly problematic part (I can't just pass the whole PCI USB controller for IOMMU reasons). It's important to note that the GPU displays directly to external monitors. I think it's possible to like, send the data back to your laptop screen? But I really didn't want that.
(As an aside, the security people at my company have no problems with VMs lol. They know what I've done and they don't seem to care).
So hopefully I'm doing this right! :) (I'm still new to some of this so haven't figured out things yet! I did ask this via Mastodon also, but wanted to add more detail to my answer!)...
I'd love to play Noita again. I already love that game, but I'll never forget the fear and sense of mystery it evoked in me when I first played it. I beat the game without looking at any sort of wiki, guide, or community, and I'm very grateful I did (although it took me quite a while to beat it for the first time. That game is hard!).
Keeping this very terse to minimize spoilers! In addition to main path, I've done toxic, pure (11), and peaceful (33), but not 34-36. Partial moon (gourd is hard), no sun. All bosses. My completion % is nowhere near 100% right now and my pillars are still not filled out. I'm somewhat handicapped because I play on my Steam Deck, meaning I don't get the precision of mouse+kb controls. That's not a problem for some folks, but it's definitely a problem for me 😅
I found out about it because of a hacker news comment discussing the Reddit drama. I'm pretty upset that I didn't discover it on Reddit. I assume any mention of Lemmy was marked as spam or was I just not browsing the right communities?
I'll chime in and add Reddit. Once I saw the direction things were going in, I went ahead and created accounts on tildes, lemmy, and kbin (which was the order I learned of them in). Right now, I think I'm most fond of kbin, but I wanted to keep my options open.
What is something like a hobby or skill that you belive almost anybody should give a try, and what makes your suggestion so good compared to other things?...
I've heard good things about Ender 3 printers and their clones if you're willing to tinker. AFAIK, the experience right out of the box isn't great, but they can be modded and upgraded over time and can be fairly capable.
That being said, those might still be too expensive depending on your geo. I seem to recall reading about reprap projects designed to be built as cheaply as possible using harvested components from things like old scanners and shit.
I firmly believe that most active people should know how to tie a bowline knot one-handed. It's not hard relative to some other knots, and it could save a life.
I'm really grateful my parents pushed me to start playing the violin at 5, because it massively enriched my life. Even when I was bullied, abused, and miserable, playing my violin would help pick me up just a bit.
Ditto. Like, I picked it up on the job, but I use it in my daily life all the time. I really like writing dumb little home automation shell scripts to turn lights off/on based on more specific conditions. I was also able to easily snipe an OG ergodox off of /r/mechmarket with praw back when those were all the rage. It's fun, and the rush you get when you finally solve a tough problem is hard to beat.
I'll have to check this out. I'm done being sold to advertisers, I want to be a customer. I do 30-50 internet searches a day, so I'll probably try out the professional tier. I wish it was FLOSS, but I'm willing to compromise on that.
I'm just curious, since I tend to get attached to my accounts but I also like having access to all information so I don't want to use a defederated instance. If, say, kbin got overrun by bad actors and was defederated by everyone else, is the only option to jump ship? Unfortunately I don't have the capability to selfhost or I...
Imo email is the perfect metaphor for this. You explain how email works and how even though Gmail looks different from outlook, both gmail and outlook users can interact with each other in the same email thread. Then, you say "now replace email with reddit/Facebook/Twitter/Instagram." I feel like I could explain this shit to my dad with this metaphor.
Every democracy carries within it the seeds of its own destruction. Every free and fair election could be a state’s or a nation’s last. That’s because whatever party or faction won the last election may take advantage of its power to make sure it cannot possibly lose the next one....
I'm glad there's a Utah community. The fact that the first post I found from it is an article about Utah's representatives acting like shits is very fitting.
I keep thinking this would have been a much better sell to devs and to users. I have always used Sync, and Boost. I tried the official app a few times, but really only used it for the chat feature. I didn't want to pay for it, but (I am embarrassed to admit it) I would pay premium to keep my app. I think this would have worked...
Same, Google searching for anything has been a massive pain in the ass ever since the 11th. I should find a plugin to auto redirect from Reddit to the latest wayback machine snapshot of that post.
Made a account just to post this, all you're doing is inconveniencing players of warframe, its obvious this is a failed experiment a majority of users aren't going to sign up for yet another site (especially one most people dont know anything about) just for warframe, and restricting access to the trove of posts on the subreddit...
That also doesn't include kbin, whose users access a lot of content hosted on Lemmy instances. The population of the reddit-alternative fediverse is even larger, and it'll continue to grow.
Here's a hint for you — copy the URL of that top post, go over to https://web.archive.org, paste that shit in, and BLAM you've got your information, while Reddit gets no traffic.
Coasters are also great. My girlfriend made an ungodly number of cat butt coasters (you'll see if you Google it) from cotton and they were a huge hit. I still use mine on my nightstand every single night.

Is it possible to attach and upload files to kbin that are not images?
I have some diff/patch files that I want to share with the RedditMigration sub but can't figure out how to upload them.
