As someone who moved to the US later in life, I learned to use fahrenheit because there's no way to talk to anyone about the weather or cooking otherwise.

If you need to do the same one day, don't bother trying to convert in your head. Just learn the numbers conversationally. Familiarize yourself with how the weather feels with the number the weather app shows.

I can't convert at all but I can use both C and F in conversation because one rarely needs exact numbers anyway. You learn the ballparks pretty quick.

You might have undiagnosed ADHD, I'm serious.

If you can, get that checked out (which can be really hard for adults, depends a lot on where you live).

I'd talk to a psychologist, not bring it up immediately but mention all symptoms messing with my day to day life.

So, are you married to futurama, and it's your son's favorite show, or are you married to your son, and futurama is their favorite show?

CynAq,

Exactly.

I call this "the fuck you trifecta".

CynAq,

What, and I can't stress this enough, dafuq is that?

CynAq,

Good thing you happened to be popular then. It's akin to self-ostracizing for most, especially young people.

The only choice most people have is between being an outcast, and sucking it up and using whatever everyone else is using. Some people are natural trend-setters, most are followers and there are those who want to do things for good reasons rather than copying everyone else. That last group of people have an uphill battle because their lifestyle requires thought and deliberation, which is something most people aren't willing to do, sadly.

They don't have to behave the same way fortunately, like auto replying to every thread posted.

Juggling!

  • It can be done dirt cheap

  • It's really therapeutic

  • You can practice it almost anywhere but especially alone in your room

  • If you git gud at it, you have a cool skill to show off

I always order small, medium or large, and not once met a barista who made a comment about it.

I found out after getting a BSc and MSc in engineering that the vast majority of the problems I had with math was due to being "taught" math by idiots who didn't actually understand the subject they were tasked with teaching.

I came to believe all my life that I had some math-learning disability where even though I could explain the theory of the parts I understood, there was so much I didn't and thus kept getting failing or barely passing grades. Whenever I asked questions to understand, I would get replies that wouldn't help with anything, which I attributed to my inability to imagine something most other classmates could.

Turns out, none of them "understood" anything, including the teachers. They were just better than me at learning and recalling steps in a mechanical fashion. I still can't "do math" as in a math test, but I can model physical systems like a motherfucker.

It's common for fleet leasing but I haven't encountered widespread push for personal lease. It exists as a service but I don't know if I'd call it "pushed like mad".

Maybe I'm out of the loop though, especially globally. It's probably different from country to country.

Farmer's Bowl - Pan fried potatoes with peppers and onions, bacon bits, old cheddar, topped with fried eggs and green onions. (lemmy.ca)

This is one of my favorite breakfasts. The potatoes, peppers, and onions are from our garden. I bake the bacon in the oven until it's crispy but not burnt. I dice the onions and peppers finely then pan fry them in butter until they start to brown. I slice the potatoes by hand or with a mandolin then cut them into bite sized...

Very nice presentation!

It's one of my favorite breakfasts too, at least as far as the ingredients go

I like potatoes to be a bit starchier and stickier than fried so I cut them into bite size cubes, but then I slowly roast them in a pan with some olive oil until they become fluffy and soft, then add crushed cumin and coriander seeds, red pepper flakes of whatever kind I happen to have, and fresh oil before increasing the heat and sort of stir-frying the spices into the crust.

I'm partial to poached eggs, or Gordon Ramsey style scrambled eggs.

I like to pre cut bacon into squares, like four-five squares per strip of bacon, and I stir-fry them in the same pan I make the potatoes in. I like the texture of some starch and leftover spices on the bacon.

I'll try your method too some day. Thanks for sharing.

Just realized something I *don't* miss about reddit: post anxiety

Did you ever have that feeling on reddit of "I better word my post just right, otherwise AutoMod will take it down"? Some subs had such strict auto moderating that it was a crap shoot to post something. Not so here. I know there's value in moderation, and I'm sure Lemmy/kbin/etc. will add more of it with time. But, for now, it...

CynAq,

I wasn't posting but I commented a lot. I can't say I had any anxiety regarding commenting.

I had 105k comment karma so I must've been used to it at least, right?

Coffee company can't be an issue. They are starbucks, not starbuck. The copyright issue could arise from the BSG franchise itself as not only is the character their IP, it's a direct reference to BSG because it makes sense only in that context.

No problem, happy to help!

Also, it's not as difficult to get used to as it looks at first. There's quite a bit of concepts to learn, but it's definitely not endless. In a week or so, especially if you keep engaging and asking questions, you'll run out of things to learn about the mechanics of the "fediverse".

Crypto advocates always were libertarians. "The left" as a collective ideology were always against crypto since its inception.

You sound like you are deluded, don't know what you're talking about or both. I'll go with both.

CynAq,
CynAq avatar

Being pedantic won't save you here.

Everyone knows what I mean when I say libertarians.

If there was ever one political ideology generalized to being crypto advocates, it was "the US version" of libertarians, aka right leaning anarcho-capitalist types.

"The left" never advocated for crypto. There were (again US style) liberals here and there who liked the idea, and a lot of people like to equate them with leftists for some reason even though they are center right, but I digress.

The "true libertarians" as you said, also never advocated for crypto. Lib-left, never advocated for crypto. If I have to say it again: the left, in the original, global definition of the left, never advocated for crypto.

a subreddit called Change My View.

You post some opinion on something with as much detail as possible as to why you have that opinion and the commenters try to change your view in some way.

The rules are; the OP has to demonstrate they are open to changing their view in some way, the top level comments must be aimed at challenging the OP's view so you can't say you agree with it, and the overall discussion must be civil. The partial or complete view changes have to be certified with a delta, a kind of award unique to that subreddit. The OP or other users are required to reply to the comment which changed their view with a description of how their view changed and the command !delta, which awards a delta to the user who posted the parent comment.
