[Video] Is Veganism Really the Answer? (www.youtube.com)

In this Our Changing Climate video essay, I look at the validity of vegan and plant-based diets as a solution to climate change. I dive into the human and planetary toll of the meat industry, looking at the massive emissions toll of beef production as well as the exploitative conditions in meat processing plants. Ultimately, I...

I celebrated my 5th anniversary of being vegan yesterday. I didn’t originally start doing it for climate reasons, but I know the meat and dairy industries are huge sources of pollution so I’m glad I’m on it.

I haven't played or run it; however, I've been watching videos on it and reading the free quickstart.

After more reflection, I probably won't be using it. It's very much in the OSR vein, and I am finding I'm getting tired of the medieval fantasy tropes. I'm mostly looking into Vampire: The Masquerade 5th edition right now.

I've had this same thought, OP. Lately I've been extra thankful for fresh fruits and veggies, because I'm sure a lot of crops are going to have a hard time going forward -- already have in some cases.

Years of mindfulness meditation have helped counteract this for me. In fact, I’ve had experiences as an adult that have eclipsed my younger years - strong euphoric ones, often in nature. Sometimes the feeling is so strong it’s almost unbearably joyful and full of wonder. But I do get your point. Certainly I have fewer novel experiences as 40-something than I used to and I have to make a concerted effort to see with fresh eyes.

Yeah, it’s been in the news 😩 We broke the global average temperature record something like 3 times last week. The graph that accompanies the articles is actually quite scary

As someone who has worked for numerous chaotic software companies over the years and had a couple rounds of burnout:

You can try the quiet quitting thing, combined with things like meditation and distancing yourself from outcomes (e.g. stoic thinking around realizing what you control and don’t control). That might keep you going for a while.

But I’ve personally found that ultimately there is no substitute for quitting a toxic job and taking real time off (at least 3 weeks). Your body and mind have experienced trauma and need rest.

Best of luck, friendo

Musk claims Meta hired dozens of Twitter employees to build Threads. (www.law360.com)

A top lawyer for Twitter owner Elon Musk says the platform has “serious concerns” that Facebook parent Meta hired “dozens of former Twitter employees” in order to build its new “copycat” Threads app — accusations that Meta denies....

Non-competes have always seemed dubious at best. And even where they do exist, they have expiration dates.

For me, it very much depends on the game:

  • Masocore game like Only Up? I love watching other people struggle with it and have zero desire to play it myself
  • Factorio or Dyson Sphere Program or similar games where the fun (for me) comes in coming up with my own creations? 99% of the time I want to play, not watch. Some exceptions: if someone is attempting a ludicrous challenge, or the occasional tips video

On a related note, have you heard of the Three Moves Ahead podcast? It seems like it'd be right up your alley: it's entirely focused on strategy games
