This is a good question; thank you for posting. For me it was probably the original Unreal and having a dedicated 3D graphics card for the first time to play it on. I of course had played its historical predecessors in Wolfenstein 3D and Doom and such, which also amazed me at the time. But Unreal felt like a magical leap forward.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't this game also the engine upon which Enemy Territory was built? I logged soooo many hours in that multiplayer mode...
Reddit CEO Steve Huffman said he wants to end user-led protest by instituting a rule that would allow users to vote out moderators who have overseen the protest. NBC News' David Ingram shares the latest.
The only thing holding people there, much like Twitter, is their addiction. I admit I miss it
I feel that too, though I'm heartened to see tens of thousands of people joining here, and already it's feeling lively. Just yesterday I asked a random question of the m/scifi (no idea how to link to magazines heh) and it's gotten half a dozen replies :-D
Exactly! And they cynically finally started working on moderation tools AFTER the protest (apparently the built-in mod tools had been garbage for years...)
As some subreddits continue blackouts to protest Reddit's plans to charge high prices for its API, Reddit has informed the moderators of those subreddits that it has plans to replace resistant moderation teams to keep spaces "open and accessible to users."
They can’t keep their story straight. First the protest is “noise” that will “blow over”. Now they’re forcing subs to re-open.
Look, even if the protest “fails”, they stick to the API pricing, and forcefully re-open subs, some things will be obvious and for everyone to see that weren’t before:
spez is lying and isn’t trustworthy
reddit cares more about IPO positioning and money than the health of the community
people are willing to explore alternatives like this fediverse
After years of using reddit, i finally deleted everything including my account there. Personally, i am not affected by the api prices, BUT, i couldn't live with me supporting people, who see their userbase, moderators and creators as nothing but noise. The point i'm making? Greetings Lemmy. I joined a few days ago and i'm here...
I'm currently studying the influx of people joining the network. A lot has happened in the last few days! But, I don't really have any specific stats to rely on....
Idk what the culture is over there but it was just a bit funny to see the entire thread I was replying to just removed. Like that doesn't happen here on kbin lmao. a bit of a culture clash there I guess....
I’m already noticing “cultural” differences between the different instances, almost like they’re virtual countries with their own traditions, but still able to see and talk to each other
It’s beautifully chaotic and open, like the Internet should be!
Thanks for posting this. There's definitely room for QoL improvements. Personally I also want the ability to collapse sub-threads when in a thread. It's annoying to have to scroll past a huge sub-thread to get to the next "root" comment
And not having to scroll to the bottom of a thread to leave a "root" comment would be nice
And then have no activity in them. Not quite sure why this is happening, is it power hungry idiots thinking if I make fifty magazines, maybe one will be popular?...
It appears the option is there for microblog comments but not thread or post comments. Am I missing something? Eg. Comments and sub comments in the post won't have the option.
Does anyone else just feel really, really good just being here? I am brand new and I ain’t going anywhere. Even with less content, or minor interface/web inconveniences (all of which are being addressed and that’s a pleasure to watch too) it feels like a community. Good vibes all around.
@MassiveCelebration78 I feel ya. It's exciting exploring the fediverse, which I had not even heard of before this week. It feels like exploring a new continent filled with possibility.
After something like 13 years of using reddit, it surprises me to admit I am probably not going back. This latest incident isn’t the first and it won’t be the last. They seem to be going full-on, profit-driven investor bootlicking.
I’ve only been exploring the Fediverse for a couple days but I’m excited by why I see. It gives me old Internet vibes: optimism and a hacker spirit.
Where’s the best place to donate funds for server costs?
My personal verdict is cautious optimism. I think with all the systems that they showed from the ship customization to base building to the lighting engine with the beautiful sunsets, I think it has a potential to be an incredible game. The only thing that gives me pause is Bethesda‘s earned reputation of fairly buggy games at launch. I have no doubt Starfield will be a good game in the long term, but my question is just what’s it gonna be like at launch?
Which is the first PC game that blew your mind?
For me it was definitely DOOM 2! Miles ahead of anything else I had played before.

Hey guys, this time I really messed up :/
I think you should see something....
Is there any way to measure how many people have left Reddit to come to the threadiverse?

Now that federation is starting to work, the experience is a bit funny. Already had experiences with lemmy and beehaw threads just being purged lol

Just a little time capsule of then and now.
Any way to get to a thread link directly without going into the thread/comments?
For threads, I see 6 links to 4.5 locations....
OC Quick, make as many Magazines as possible!
And then have no activity in them. Not quite sure why this is happening, is it power hungry idiots thinking if I make fifty magazines, maybe one will be popular?...
So what corners have redditors gathered to during the blackout?
Here (kbin), Lemmy, Tildes... I hear Mastodon had a user spike. Is there something obvious I'm missing?...
Why are the collapse and expand options missing when I view comments on a post?
It appears the option is there for microblog comments but not thread or post comments. Am I missing something? Eg. Comments and sub comments in the post won't have the option.
A lot subreddits end their blackout tomorrow. Will you go back to Reddit, or continue with kbin and the Fediverse?
I haven't used Reddit at all since the blackout began. Even if they change course, the Fediverse is growing on me, and I think I'll stay here....
